SJB Weekly Events and News: July 8 - 14

This weekend is Mass on the Grass!

If ever there were a great Sunday to ask a friend or neighbor to check out a St. John’s service with you, this is it. We’ll have an NRO quartet, music from Thomas and our choir, and a celebration of the Lord’s Supper under God’s very own ceiling.

Please note: Service begins at 10am. (One of our recent mailings may have been in error.)

Immediately following the service, we’ll celebrate together with a barbecue. We’re still looking for a few contributions - if you’re able to bring a little something, please sign up using the buttons below,

See you there!

Use the button below to sign-up to help with "dish duty"

The Town of Breckenridge now requires that parties who use their facilities (such as Carter Park) have a "Zero Waste" event. We will be providing reusable plates, utensils, napkins, and cups for all Mass on the Grass parishioners and guests.

We could use your help to compost the food waste, return the dishes to the Gathering Place, and then wash and put them away. "Training" on how to run the dishwasher will be provided, if needed!

The sign-up has one hour time slots with opportunities for at least 2 people to help each hour. Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Prayer Request: Colorado Wildfires

Lord, we ask for your protection from the spreading wildfires across Colorado. We ask for the protection of those fighting in harm's way. We pray for those coordinating efforts in support and relief. Be with those besieged by fire, guide those who evacuate so that they may find care and comfort in a safe place; protect their homes and their pets, their neighbors and their friends, so that they may return home to a loving community.

We grieve for the loss of human life, animal life, plants, and trees, and the scarring of the earth. We are saddened for the original custodians of the land, the First Peoples of the land, and the poor and marginalized disproportionately affected by the fires. Turn our sadness into compassion. We ask this in the name of Jesus, your Son, who abides with you and with the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Summer Tuesday Community Dinner Volunteers Needed!

We are entering the summer busy season for our Tuesday Community Dinners! For the next eight weeks we expect to serve 100-125 guests each week, including the NRO musicians. The "regular" teams are requesting additional volunteers to help with set-up, cooking, serving, and clean-up. The dinners, including set-up and clean-up, go from 3:30 pm - 8:00 pm. You can help for all or part of the dinner time.

If you are interested and available to help with this ministry please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up. Thank you! The St. John's team lead will reach out to you after you sign up.

Rector New Cell Phone

The Rector has added the following contact number:

(970) 409-7507

Although email, rector@stjohnsbreck.org, is always the preferred avenue of contact, by all means add this number to your rolodex for situations when talking or texting is just a better option. This cell will generally be powered off when the Rector isn’t on the clock, but she will monitor it periodically for emergencies.

The Rector may typically be reached:

  • Tuesday-Saturday 9am - 5pm
  • Sunday 8am - 1pm

She is off on Mondays, when she will neither send nor receive communications (but will check periodically for emergencies).

Contacting Vestry Members

The Vestry now has an email address, vestry@stjohnsbreck.org, which will be monitored by Senior Warden, Carol Goodwin.
