There were several bi-partisan legislators who spoke in support of the API community including Congresswoman Angie Craig, MN State Senators.-- Mark Koran, Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger, Erin Murphy & Susan Pha, MN State Representatives -- XP Lee & Patricia Mueller. There were several community leaders who spoke at the event including Linus Chan - Director of Detainee Rights Clinic, University of Minnesota Law School; Chen Zhou -- Board Director, Minnesota Chinese Chamber of Commerce;; May Yer Thou - President and CEO, Hmong American Partnership; Nasreen Sajady - Executive Director, Afghan Cultural Society of MN; Peggy Doi - Twin Cities Japanese American Citizens League; Willow Albano - President, Macalester College Student Government; Mike Hang - Chair, Minnesota Hmong Chamber of Commerce; and Sanjay Terakanambi - Government Relations Committee Chair and IAM Board of Directors.

It is really important for legislators and community leaders to take notice of our vibrant community, especially, when we are experiencing a lot of hate, bias, discrimination in our communities, workplaces and even schools.

Family Water Safety & Early Learning Through Swim Lessons
Sat May 2nd 2026 from 4.30p-6pm
Plymouth Community Center Aquatics
More info in the attached flyer and at the registration link below.
Water Safety Class – Fill out form
Minnesota is known as the Land of 10,000 Lakes, and many families spend time near water throughout the year—at lakes, pools, and local beaches. For some immigrant families, however, adults may not have had the opportunity to learn how to swim or may feel unsure about teaching water safety to their children. This can create barriers to safely enjoying Minnesota’s abundant natural resources.
This family‑centered swim and water‑safety class is designed to address those gaps in a supportive, inclusive environment. Parents and children learn simple, lifesaving water‑safety skills together, building confidence and shared understanding. Learning as a family helps reduce fear, supports trust, and strengthens parents’ ability to keep their children safe around water.
Research also suggests that early participation in swimming is associated with benefits beyond safety. Studies have found that children who engage in swim lessons before age five demonstrate stronger early learning skills, including areas related to language, problem‑solving, and motor development. Swimming supports coordination, balance, and rhythmic movement—foundational skills connected to how young children learn and process information.
This class emphasizes encouragement, accessibility, and respect for all experience levels. No prior swimming experience is required.
We invite families to join us as we learn together and support safe, confident enjoyment of Minnesota’s waters.
For parents and children
No swimming experience needed
Learn together—no pressure, no judgment

Shashank Subramanyam and Abhishek Raghuram
Shashank is an eminent exponent of the Indian bamboo flute, recognized globally for his mastery and innovation. A child prodigy, he began performing in 1984 at age six, shortly after the legendary T.R. Mahalingam (Mali) prophesied his brilliant future. He received rigorous training in the Carnatic tradition from his father, M.N. Subramanyam, and the esteemed Palghat K.V. Narayanaswami, while further diversifying his artistry by studying Hindustani music under the legendary Pandit Jasraj. Renowned for his technical brilliance, Shashank revolutionized flute playing through his "transposed fingering" technique and the use of multiple flutes to expand the instrument’s tonal range.
