Announcement from Our Executive Director

To the Groundwork Denver community:

It is with mixed emotions that I am writing to share that I have decided to step down as Executive Director at the end of September.

I am incredibly grateful and honored to have worked with the community at Groundwork Denver over the last seven years. In this time, we have witnessed the growth of 425 youth and young adults in our green pathways programs, planted 400 trees, cleaned up 158 miles of river and maintained 24,000 acres of public land. Through our Energy Program, we supported more than 700 families through free home energy audits, saving families money on their energy bills and 1,000 tons of carbon from our atmosphere. We supported families through the pandemic and provided thousands more with climate justice education and opportunities to take action to improve their health and well-being. We invested millions of dollars in neighborhood-based programs, specifically in the City of Sheridan and the Globeville/Elyria-Swansea neighborhoods of Denver. Most importantly, we centered community and youth voice in our work and mission.

All of this has been possible because of the incredible network of contributors like you – people who participate in our programs, donate, volunteer, advocate, serve on our staff and board, and partner with us. Groundwork Denver is a community of people who share a vision for an environmentally just world where everyone can thrive – I am proud to be among you.

As you may know, I first began volunteering with Groundwork Denver when I moved to this state in 2009, and I never looked back. As I make way for new leadership, I remain committed to supporting the organization. You will continue to see me at volunteer and fundraising events, serving on the board of Groundwork USA, and being the loudest cheerleader of this incredible community.

Thank you for entrusting me with the care of this organization for so many years.

Sincerely,

Cindy Chang

From Our Board

A Note from the Groundwork Denver Board of Directors:

As we wish Cindy a sad and fond farewell, we simultaneously look to the future of Groundwork Denver and our responsibility to find our next leader.

The Board of Directors has engaged Employers Council, a local executive search firm, to support the hiring of our next Executive Director. Interested parties may learn more on our website.

Groundwork Denver continues to be a strong, stable presence in the community. In our 22 years, we’ve come a long way, with each new contributor building on top of the great work that came before. Perhaps more than ever before, we are poised to elevate youth and resident leadership towards community-based solutions to climate change and environmental injustice. We are committed to ensuring a seamless transition and are confident that we will continue to deepen our impact under new leadership.
