Survey for Fathers by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities and Regional Autism Advisory Council
|
Father’s Day may have been last weekend, but we all know fathers who deserve to be recognized on a regular basis! Calling all fathers of children with developmental disabilities!
The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities, with partners throughout Ohio, is working towards a vision of collaboration among state agencies, communities, and networks of support where fathers of people with developmental disabilities are valued, engaged, and empowered. To best move forward, we want to know:
- What is a father's current perspective?
- What are fathers' experiences in systems that support their child with developmental disabilities?
- What do they want? What do they need?
- How do 'systems' and organizations best support fathers of children with developmental disabilities?
Who better to answer these questions than fathers themselves! If you are an Ohio father with a child with developmental disabilities, of any age, consider participating in a brief (5-10 minute) survey, and joining in for one of two virtual Fathers’ Forums. We are eager to hear from you!!
Survey: Simple, 18 question survey that shouldn’t take more than 5-10 minutes. Participating fathers will have an opportunity to win one of two $50 gift cards. The survey, which will be open until July 10, 2022, can be found at the Survey for Fathers link.
Father’s Forum: An opportunity for fathers to chat via Zoom with other Ohio fathers to share their experiences as a father, and share what supports and resources they want and need. Afternoon and evening sessions are available:

Ohio Parent to Parent (P2P) Statewide Mentoring & Support Program
|
The Ohio Parent to Parent (P2P) Statewide Mentoring & Support Program is teaming up with Ohio Family to Family, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, UCCEDD, and the University of Cincinnati to offer mentoring for families and caregivers in the state of Ohio and the greater Cincinnati area. This statewide matching program pairs parents, family members, or caregivers of a person with a disability or special healthcare need. Their program is unique because they match families with an experienced, trained, volunteer support parent.
You can read more about this experience on the flyer. To get connected, you can call (513) 636-1245 or email Jena Wells. You can also search Ohio Parent to Parent, P2P USA in your favorite search engine.

The University of Cincinnati Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCCEDD) is partnering with the University of Oregon Center on Brain Injury Research & Training (CBIRT) on a project to support parents of young children with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities who have some challenging behaviors. Their team has developed an online parent-training program for caregivers/parents of young children (ages 2 to 6 years) with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD) that they think would be helpful to our autism community.
The UCCEDD is recruiting family caregivers (parents) for a paid research study, known as the Tots Project, to evaluate the program. Their project website, linked below, has more information about the project, and includes a video link that explains the objective and participation parameters. They are recruiting family caregivers from Ohio and Oregon, as well as Kentucky, Washington State, California, and potentially Indiana. Eligibility is determined via the Qualtrics Survey through the Oregon CBIRT. You can reach out to contact Kandyce Kelley via email for more information or questions.

Freeman Center Needs Assessment
|
The Timothy Freeman, MD Center for Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities at UC Health is interested in learning more about our community of adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD). They are hoping to find out what kinds of medical specialties and what kinds of traditional and/or alternative therapies you think should be available at the Timothy Freeman, MD, Center for IDD, and how important they are to you. They are also looking to hear your ideas on how to make the Center better at the button below, which links to a Google Form.
