Join us as we welcome Ms. Sharon Duncan-Glasgow back to the Our Saviour pulpit

as she shares the holy gospel on the 6th Sunday after Pentecost!

July 20, 2025

Sharon was seeking an improved quality of life after life changing events in Guyana. She was presented with a job opportunity in the New York City Public School system where she still serves.

Sharon was raised in the Anglican Church in Guyana where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and Lay Preacher. After migrating to the United States in 2003 to take up her teaching position where she still serves, she chose to worship with her aunts at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Jamaica and subsequently became a member.

Sharon is deeply committed to the work of the Lord and accepts the call to serve this church community. She is widowed and resides in Long Island with her adult son. She is grateful to Almighty God for his favor and blessings upon her life.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Worship Team training that was held on July 13, 2025!

Pastor Daniel Peter

Our Coverage Pastor!

Pastor Daniel Peter is a Rostered Pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), currently working at St. Paul's International Lutheran Church, Floral Park, NY, since October 2000. Pastor Daniel’s family, which includes his wife (Rev. Sarah Geddada), and his daughter (Rev. Hephzibah Penumaka) were invited by the Metropolitan New York Synod of the ELCA to develop the Indian Ministry in Lutheran Church in October 2000.

By the grace of God, Pastor Daniel is actively involved in Synod and Church wide programs that helped to develop his leadership skills. He served in the Synod Council of the Metropolitan New York Synod and was on the Synod Executive Committee for two years. He was on the Board of Directors of Seafarers as well as the Board of Directors of Lutheran Higher Education in the Synod.

Pastor Daniel is also a member of the Asian and Pacific Islanders Ministry in the ELCA and serves on the Asian Church Planting Team of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

A word from

Elaine Peters Guthrie

Church Council President

To my fellow members at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, it is with great humility that I am accepting my role as Church Council President. I am honored to serve as your President, and I hope to make you proud.  As you are aware, our Church is going through a transitional period, and I am hoping to make a positive impact during this time of change. I am genuinely excited (and a little bit scared) to take on this challenge, but I am optimistic about our future.

I also want to thank you, my fellow council members, for your vote of confidence in me when you elected me to serve as part of the leadership of this congregation.

Congratulations

Pastor Bob!

Pastor Bob has been appointed Vice-Pastor of Abiding Presence Lutheran Church in Ewing Township, New Jersey. Vice-Pastor is similar to Coverage Pastor - it is a part-time position that includes worship leadership two Sundays per month. The appointment was made by Bishop Bartholomew of the New Jersey Synod, who also served, along with her husband, at Abiding Presence.

Congratulations

to The

Rev. Dr.

Katrina D. Foster!!

The Rev. Dr. Katrina D. Foster was elected on May 3 to be the bishop of the Metropolitan New York Synod of the ELCA for six years. Since 2015, she has been the pastor at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, working with diverse communities—from busy city neighborhoods to wealthier, changing areas—aiming to build lively, caring faith communities. She focuses on clear communication, setting expectations, and creating a positive work environment. She also values community, balance, and well-being. She will be installed as bishop this fall.
