The SAFE Act: How New Legislation Could Crack Down on Chameleon Carriers and Strengthen Supply Chain Safety

When shippers hire a trucking company, they expect the carrier to operate safely, legally, and transparently.  Unfortunately, not every carrier on the road meets those expectations.  Some companies repeatedly evade federal enforcement by shutting down after serious safety violations—only to reopen under a different name with a new USDOT number.

These companies are known as "chameleon carriers," and lawmakers are now taking steps to stop them.

A newly introduced bipartisan bill, the Stopping and Assessing Fraudulent Enterprises (SAFE) Act, aims to give the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) better tools to identify these high-risk carriers before they can return to America's highways.

The Worst Hazmat Trucking Accidents in U.S. History—and How They Changed Transportation Forever

Every hazmat shipment carries an enormous responsibility. While hazardous materials account for only a small percentage of total freight moved across the United States, they require some of the industry's highest safety standards because the consequences of a single mistake can be catastrophic.

Over the past several decades, several high-profile hazmat transportation accidents have reshaped federal regulations, emergency response procedures, insurance requirements, and the expectations placed on both shippers and carriers.

Pennsylvania’s Diesel Tax Debate: What It Could Mean for Freight Costs

Pennsylvania has long carried an expensive distinction for the trucking industry: one of the highest diesel fuel tax rates in the United States. With fuel representing one of the largest operating expenses for commercial fleets, any proposal to reduce that burden is likely to attract attention from shippers, carriers, and consumers alike.

Now, a newly proposed bill in the Pennsylvania legislature seeks to provide diesel tax relief, reigniting an important conversation about transportation costs, supply chain efficiency, and the future of freight movement throughout the Commonwealth.
