It's Not About The Religion,

It's About The Relationship!

Border Church this Sunday at Noon!

THE MID-WEEK BUZZ

Happy Thursday, Church!

I certainly hope that your week is going well.  My week has started out busy, but I am still reeling from our worship this past Sunday.  From the first notes of Mike and the boy’s prelude, there was a palpable sense of Spirit.  Many thanks to everyone who helped make our All-Saints Day Worship so meaningful.  A special thank you to Jeannie Hume for the flowers and Vicki Holland for making our slide show possible.  I was also grateful for having 8 guests with us in worship.  They were all on repeat visits and remarked how warm and loving this place was.  It made me so proud seeing you personally connecting with them during fellowship hour.  Thank you for being the church.

Well, it is election day (Tuesday) and by the time you read this, hopefully the national response to the results have been accepted with grace on all sides.  It really is a shame how mean people can get during an election campaign.  I hope and pray that we as a nation, can return to the days of civility, empathy and compassion.  Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

With the price of gas still on the rise, (especially in Poway ...I paid 6.20 a gallon UGH) it is funny that our scripture passage for Sunday morning, revolves around oil, its use and its importance in the first century.  Take a read through our parable for Sunday.

Until Sunday, know that you are loved and appreciated.  This church is YOU and YOU do so well.  I am grateful. I love being your pastor.

Holding you close and lifting you high!

Pastor Greg

Esnyaaw | Coast Live Oak

The coast live oak, our featured native plant this November, is known as esnyaaw to the Kumeyaay people. It's specifically called a "live" oak because it's an evergreen tree that keeps its leaves year round, unlike deciduous trees that shed their leaves seasonally.

The coast live oak is a sprawling, gnarled landmark that can be found up and down the California and Baja California coast. They often reach heights of 30 ft and can go on to live 250 years. Growing up, I spent many hours lounging in the branches of coast live oaks, which wander out horizontally and sometimes even recline on the ground (like seen in the photo above!). The tree's capacity to support the lateral growth of these heavy branches is a feat of natural engineering.

Upcoming Events & Weekly News

Border Church

On Sunday November 8th at 12pm, we will carpool from our church to Border Church, which meets outdoors at 1:30pm until about 2:30pm. “Every Sunday, friends from San Diego, Tijuana, and around the world gather for our weekly celebration of binational communion at Friendship Park, the historic meeting place on the US-Mexico border. Somehow, the border wall mysteriously becomes a table for communion, where all are welcome.”

Blessings from the Outreach Ministry

Thank you so much for your gifts of baby items for the Foundation of Women Warriors! We are delivering those items the first week of November for their baby shower for service women and veterans in need.

Now our Basket of Hope will become the Basket of Thanksgiving Hope! This year we will again bless 10 families with all the ingredients to make a tasty Thanksgiving dinner, including a gift card to purchase a turkey. The Thanksgiving basket is item specific. You can help us by choosing one or more tags off our Thanksgiving board. Then bring your items by November 22 so we can create the Thanksgiving Bags!

Thank you so much in advance for bringing joy and sharing God‘s love with our neighbors.

Happy Thanksgiving!

This novel is rich with unforgettable characters, and full of captivating historical drama. “Eleanore of Avignon” is the story of a healer who risks her life, her freedom, and everything she holds dear to protect her beloved city from the encroaching Black Death. Provence, 1347.

You are invited to join this wonderful group of women that meets every Tuesday in the Fireside Room at 10 a.m.
