On behalf of the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities’ State Board of Directors, I am thrilled to share that Charm Bullard will be our organization’s next President & CEO. Charm will officially assume this role on January 1, 2027 following a planned overlap period with our outgoing President & CEO. A personal message from Charm is below.
I extend my deep appreciation to the members of the Search Committee, as well as to our executive search firm Warren Whitney. This comprehensive search yielded over 100 impressive and highly credentialed applicants from across the country. As we considered the skills and experience we thought could best lead our organization into the future, it became clear that the strongest candidate was already present within the staff team.
For the past decade, Charm has been a leader for the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities, first as Director of Education and currently as Senior Advisor to the CEO. In those capacities, she has:
- Served on the organization’s staff Leadership Team, co-developing internal priorities and leading strategic initiatives.
- Actively participated as a member of the most recent Strategic Planning Committee, supporting the development of the organization’s current trajectory.
- Facilitated thousands of programs for schools, businesses, government agencies, and community groups, deepening outreach and securing significant revenue for VCIC.
- Founded the Virginia Inclusion Summit, an annual statewide conference convened by VCIC for workplace, government, and higher education professionals.
- Authored the quarterly “Building Inclusive Workplaces” newsletter, shaping external communication and reinforcing VCIC’s position with employers and partners.
- Provided internal staff development through training, observation, and facilitation coaching.
Prior to her tenure at VCIC, Charm served in various student affairs roles on college campuses throughout the Southeast. Among her significant achievements was founding the Connecting Women of Color Conference at the University of Richmond, which garnered recognition in Women in Higher Education and Essence magazines. Charm is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and she currently serves on the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Richmond. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Lander University and a Master’s degree from the University of Georgia.
VCIC’s State Board is grateful to the many partners and supporters who have sustained our organization’s work since our founding in 1935. Under Charm’s leadership, the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities is well-positioned to remain connected, relevant, and impactful for years to come. Please join me in congratulating her on this appointment.
Sincerely,
