A Month for Gratitude

While I’m not one of those people who feel relieved to see the rain return—or the chilly fall weather we get in Seattle—I am happy to see the calendar turn to November. I love that November is National Gratitude Month, and I’m grateful that it includes pumpkin pie and time with family and friends.

If you’ve ever heard David Brooke – The Gratitude Guy – speak at an NACM event, you know how important it is to take time to reflect on what you have to be grateful for in your life. Research shows that:

• Gratitude leads to greater emotional and social well-being.

• Expressing gratitude to your employees can boost productivity by more than 50%(!)

• Gratitude journaling leads to a 25% improvement in sleep quality.

Here are a few articles and studies about the power of gratitude and some ideas about how to make it a practice:

While I have many, many things to be grateful for, I want to take a moment to share a few that are especially meaningful to me here at NACM BCS. Maybe some of these are on your list too!

• Our members. Whether you’ve been with us your entire career or recently joined, we exist to help you grow and thrive in your profession. Without you, there is no us. Thank you for your commitment to NACM and for allowing us to support you on your journey.

• Our Board of Directors. These dedicated members volunteer their time and expertise to help NACM BCS grow and evolve to meet your needs. I’m deeply grateful for their commitment and support. (You can read more about them in the July eNews!)

• Our incredible NACM BCS team. I’m so grateful for the experienced, committed, and knowledgeable professionals I get to work with every day. They assist our members and customers with care, bring our values to life, and have fun doing it!

• Our industry partners. We’re fortunate to collaborate with wonderful partners like UTA, Experian, D&B, TCLM, CIC and Billfire—people who are always ready to help us bring solutions that help our members work more efficiently and effectively.

• Our future. Exciting things are happening! As we bring our strategic plan to life, I believe the potential for this organization is tremendous. The more I learn about NACM BCS, the more I wonder why every business isn’t already a member?! There’s so much value here for everyone—and in the coming months, we’ll be working to make that even more visible.

If you’re willing to share, I’d love to hear what you’re most grateful for this year—especially if there’s a person, program, or experience at NACM BCS that has made a difference for you. Please email me at lauram@nacmbcs.org, and I’ll share your notes with the team. We will all be so grateful!

Wishing you each a moment this month to reflect on what you’re grateful for!

Special Opportunity

Compensation Study For Members

We are joining all the NACM affiliates across the country to conduct a 2026 compensation survey. Similar to our first effort in 2024, the intent is to gather data about salaries and benefits for credit professionals locally and at member companies across the nation. A lot was learned in the first study two years ago, and we are hoping to grow member participation and information this year. Participating members will receive the final report at no cost.

One lesson learned in 2024: This survey will likely require the assistance of your Human Resources professionals to ensure that we receive the best comparative data. We learned that many of our credit professionals did not have a full view of the requested information. While the results were satisfactory, if you can enlist the help of your HR colleagues, we expect even better information to share with you.

The survey was initially distributed via email in mid-October with follow-ups into early November. It is being conducted by a third party who respects privacy as well as the intricacies of compensation studies. The survey will include the benefit questions from last survey. Please participate and start by asking your HR office for help.

If you have not received the survey, please check your Junk Mail. If you can't find it there, contact Erica Wagner in our office at ericaw@nacmbcs.org. It only takes a few minutes providing you have all the appropriate information at hand. That's where you HR professional will come in handy.

This exercise is important to our profession so please make a effort to participate. Your involvement can help everyone in credit. Thanks for your help!

New Access Codes Coming Your Way

We’re making an important update to how you access the NACM Core System.

Some of you log in regularly to look up collections or participate in Industry Groups, while others rarely use it. In the months ahead, we’ll be adding more members-only resources—and eventually everyone will want to log in.

What’s Changing

  • We’re moving from shared logins to individual user accounts.
  • Your current team access code will be retired.
  • Each team member will receive their own unique access code.

Why It’s Changing

  • Stronger security for member data.
  • A more personalized experience for each user.
  • Better support for new members-only resources.

What to Expect

  • You’ll receive your new access code along with easy-to-follow instructions.
  • If you need help, clear support contacts will be provided.
  • New codes will roll out gradually—everyone will have theirs by January 2026.

We expect the transition to go smoothly, and once complete, you’ll have more secure and seamless access to NACM’s resources. Stay tuned for updates—and thank you for helping us take this important step forward!

US home sales accelerated in September to their fastest pace since February as mortgage rates eased

Sales of previously occupied U.S. homes accelerated in September as declining mortgage rates and a pickup in available properties on the market encouraged home shoppers.

Existing home sales rose 1.5% last month from August to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.06 million units, the National Association of Realtors said Thursday.

The national median sales price climbed 2.1% in September from a year earlier to $415,200. That’s the 27th consecutive month that home prices have risen on an annual basis and the highest median sales price for any September on data going back to 1999.
