The Board of Servant Leaders is calling a congregational vote to affirm our support for Dave Shaddrix's admission to the Specific Ministry Pastor (SMP) program at Concordia Seminary and to express our intention to call him as a pastor upon completion of the program requirements and eligibility for a call.
What is the SMP Program?
The SMP program is a four-year pastoral formation program of the LCMS designed to meet identified ministry needs. Students serve as vicars (interns) during their first two years, studying through distance education while working under the supervision of a mentor pastor. After completing this vicarage and initial courses, they may be ordained and called to their ministry site while finishing the final two years of study. This is the program that Pastor Mark Boriack and Pastor Rob Winston both completed and Vicar Jung Choi is currently enrolled.
About Dave
Many of you know Dave and his heart for sharing the Good News of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He has served in many ministries at Prince of Peace, the latest is through teaching an adult Bible study which continues to bring new challenges and joys, deepening his faith and sense of service. His spiritual growth, fostered by these experiences, is calling for a new step in his walk with God by serving as a called pastor among us. After evaluation by the Prince of Peace Lead Staff and by the Southeastern District, both recommend Dave for the SMP program. The Board of Servant Leaders also recommends him for this next step in ministry formation.
Our Commitment
This is not a full pastoral call yet. It is a congregational affirmation that, with God’s help, we will support and encourage Dave through his studies and vicarage (internship), with the intention to call him as pastor upon his eligibility for a call.
At this time there is no direct financial commitment required from the congregation, as tuition support for the SMP program will come from the Love in Action endowment. Dave will also be serving, at least initially, under a worker–pastor model, continuing his professional work while serving as pastor in formation among us.
Voting Process
Ballots will be distributed Sunday, August 9 and a vote will be taken at each worship service. Please make sure to give your ballot to an usher or place it in the offering plate. You must be a member to vote.
Questions?
If you have questions or comments about this process, please reach out to any member of the Board of Servant Leaders or to Pastor Michael.
