Welcome our new Physical Therapist!

Seema Pandya Sodhani, PT has joined the Red Bank office team! Returning to her New Jersey roots with a recent relocation to the Shore, Seema brings years of clinical expertise and non-profit healthcare work back to her home state. Her healthcare journey began in Boston Massachusetts, where she earned her degree in physical therapy from Northeastern University and later completed her Masters of Business Administration at the MIT Sloan School of Management.

At the core of Seema's practice is a commitment to hands-on, patient-centered care. She honed her specialized manual therapy skills through rigorous post-graduate training with the Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy (IOMT) and expanded her holistic, integrative expertise by earning her Yoga Teacher Certification in 2020. Seema believes true healing happens when advanced clinical technique meets a compassionate, whole-person perspective. She approaches each patient encounter by thoughtfully blending her physical therapy foundation with yoga philosophy, functional breathwork, and mindfulness techniques tailored to each individual's path to wellness.

When she isn't practicing physical therapy or teaching on the yoga mat, Seema is dedicated to advancing health equity and non-profit advocacy. She has served on several leadership boards, including the Board of Overseers at Boston Children's Hospital. Ms Pandya remains actively involved in expanding healthcare access and research-from funding nursing scholarships at Morristown Memorial Hospital for over 20 years, to supporting the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Women's Health Symposiums, and even in sponsoring mobile medical clinics and educational resources in rural towns in India.

Seema will be seeing patients in our Red Bank office and can be reached via email at seema@dborthopt.com.

Flip Flops and Foot Pain.

by Meghan Raphael, PT, DPT

At db OrthoPT, summertime brings great weather, sunshine smiles and…patients complaining of foot pain. For many, summertime signals a change of footwear from spring sneakers to summer flip flops and, again for many, that can also signal a new nagging, aching pain at the bottom of their feet and heels.

But it’s summer! I want to wear those cute strappy sandals and clickity-clackity flip flops!

If your current $5 flip flops aren’t making your feet feel like a day at the beach, keep this check list in mind when shopping for your next pair of summer footwear:

Straps: Ill-fitting shoes (like flip flops) are a big contributor to impaired walking mechanics and can change the way our feet distribute and accept our body weight with each step, often leading to over-pronation or inward rolling of the foot. Choosing an option with adjustable straps for better fit can help keep the support where it needs to be (and keep those flips from flopping off your feet creating a tripping hazard).

Arch support: The arch is one of the strongest shapes in geometry and in nature, resisting the compressive forces of gravity and our body weight. However, sometimes our feet arches could use a little extra help. Flip flops or sandals with additional arch support can aid in shock absorption, help to distribute weight across the entire foot and aid alignment, and can relieve strain on sensitive tissues like the plantar fascia.

Cushioning: In addition to acting as additional shock absorption, sandals with cushioning can help reduce muscle fatigue when walking and provide increased comfort for sore feet.

Still don’t know where to start or what to look for? At db OrthoPT, we stock and stand by Archies Footwear, that offer fashionable, supportive options for summer flip flops designed by physiotherapists.

Still have summer foot pain? At db OrthoPT, we can get to the root cause of your foot pain and help you to feel flip-flop ready this summer!

What is the Medicare Cap for Physical Therapy?

We get this question all the time from Medicare recipients, "for how long will Medicare pay for the physical therapy services I am receiving?" The answer really depends on several factors. The first important factor is a physician must be notified of the plan of care written by your physical therapist. The plan of care previously required the signature of a physician but

now the physician only has to be notified via fax. Once that occurs, the initial limit is $2480/calendar year which includes physical and speech therapy combined. If your PT certifies you can achieve additional functional goals, that number can be extended to $3000 with a potential for a targeted review. If you plateau with functional progress, maintenance of your current status will also be paid by Medicare.

db OrthoPT proudly supports the Trinity Ride for Food Justice!

Now, we're just a little over two weeks away from our 8th Annual Jersey Shore Ride for Food Justice on September 12th. This event is the Trinity Center for Community’s biggest fundraiser, and in the last seven years, we’ve raised over $420,000. If you have already donated, thank you. If you have not, now is your chance to help us surpass the half million dollars raised. All proceeds go directly to Trinity Center's life saving work in our community.

The need for these services remains critical. Your donation this year will continue to support:

A robust food pantry that provides groceries to families facing food insecurity.

Community meals (a soup kitchen) that offer warm, nutritious meals.

Housing assistance and homelessness prevention programs.

The Code Blue Warming Center, a safe haven on dangerously cold nights.

Trinity Center also offers comprehensive programs that build long-term stability and well-being, such as financial and budgeting courses, personal wellness programs, and community arts and music programs.

We need your help to continue this important work. By supporting the bike ride, you are directly investing in the well-being of our community members. Your contribution ensures that the Trinity Center for Community can continue to provide these essential services and foster a more just and thriving society.

What is Stenosis?

by Alyssa Baez, PT, DPT

We often hear the phrase when people get referred to us with chronic Low Back Pain, "I was told I have spinal stenosis, what does that mean?"

Spinal stenosis is classified as narrowing of the spinal canal that often compresses the spinal cord and/or spinal nerves. Simply speaking, it can be considered "arthritis of the spine."
