Summer Retreat: A Sacred Time for Grief

Grief, which encompasses loss and regret, is a profound human experience.  Community, self-care, and connecting with nature are balms for the grieving heart that can also lead us closer to God. In this guided small group experience on private land on the Big Wood River, these three balms will come together, offering an opportunity for men and women to reflect on and process individual and collective grief.  Your guides will be Jonah Kendall, Kathleen Bean, Vicki Rosenberg and Sabrina Roblin.

Date: Saturday, June 21st.  Time: 10am-2pm. Space is limited.  Contact Kathleen Bean to register at kbean@stthomassv.org.

Bike to School and Work Day

St. Thomas' Green Team will be participating once again this year in the BCRD's Bike to School and Work Day on May 14th! Jonah and Kathleen will be on hand to bless bicycles and riders. Bike over and see us! We are usually just below the Ketchum Post Office...

My friends,
I come to you with a heavy heart asking for your prayers and continued support for the Haiti Micah Project (HMP). I won’t mince words. Haiti is in the grip of gang warfare with murderous consequences. Since the 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, the violence has caused great human suffering, mainly in the capital of Port-au-Prince. But until now, the work of HMP in the City of Mirebalais in the Centre Plateau has been largely unscathed. That is no longer the case. Two weeks ago, Mirebalais was attacked and taken over by the armed gangs. Mirebalais is a target because of its critical location at the intersection of two of the country’s major roadways, and because it is home to the country’s most advanced medical facility.
Reports from Mirebalais are horrific. A local priest described the situation in terms of “unspeakable scenes of terror unfolding before our very eyes.” Hundreds have been killed including two Catholic nuns.” Of the population of over 150,000, “many walk barefoot, without clothes, without food, without hope.”
When the violence erupted, our local staff acted with urgency and courage. They fled with the children, escaping to a town 40 miles away carrying nothing but the clothes on their backs. They are now displaced, traumatized, and in desperate need of food, clothing, shelter, and basic care. We’re scrambling to find adequate housing and to re-enroll them in school, but we cannot do it alone.
The HMP feeding and tuition assistance programs are suspended, and schools, churches and businesses in Mirebalais are closed. HMP is now focused on keeping people alive and devoting our resources to providing food, water, clothing, and safety to the refugee children. Please help! Your contributions will sustain our children, literally putting food into hungry mouths and averting starvation. In addition, we need your help to prepare for our eventual return to Mirebalais so that we can rebuild our facilities and restart our feeding and educational programs. We anticipate there will be significant costs when we return.
Your prayers are essential. Thus far, the international response to this crisis has been one of detachment, especially by the United States. Let us pray for peace and a humanitarian response by all nations and peoples of good will, especially by the United States.

Mid-Week Eucharist Reminder

Take a break in your busy week to enter the peace and quiet of our sanctuary for a brief Eucharist service. It's a chance to stop, breathe, and reflect, and go back to your day refreshed. Every Tuesday at noon.
