We are excited to tell you about some new changes that are going into effect for the Optimist Leadership Academy (OLA) beginning this year!
The Leadership Academy is a nine-month program offering participants the opportunity to delve deeper into their own personal values while learning leadership skills that will be valuable for both their personal life and their Optimist life.
Beginning this year, Members can self-nominate to be considered for selection to the Academy. A person who has not served as Governor or above may complete an application and submit it for the selection process.

All applications are due no later than end of day on August 23, 2026. Please keep in mind that not everyone will be chosen to be a Candidate.
The other big change is that it will no longer be a requirement to attend the Convention to complete the program. It was determined that there were Members who were missing out on applying because of needing to attend the Convention. All of the course work can be completed online, and traveling to Convention will no longer be a barrier to participation in the Optimist Leadership Academy.
