These past few weeks, we have been focusing on the "Simple Gifts" of God that help us be the community we are called to be as faithful disciples of Christ at Asbury. We have looked closely at the gifts of time and of talent. This week, we will focus on the simple gift of treasure: the treasures God has given us, and the treasures that we give in the life of the church so that we can continue the mission and ministry of the church for the world.

This Sunday is our Consecration Sunday. It is a time when we respond to the gracious activity of God in our lives and our hearts by prayerfully considering our monetary pledges to Asbury for the next year ahead. Sharing our simple gifts with others - time, talent, and treasure - allows Asbury to continue to be a space where all are welcome, where all means all, and where all can come to see and know that they are loved by God.

Check out Pastor Jeff's video as he talks more about this. We hope to see you in worship this Sunday at 9 and 11 am!

P.S. - Trunk or Treat is also this Sunday from 4-6 pm in the Asbury parking lot. Open to ALL children in the community, so feel free to invite your friends and neighbors with littles!

Faithful Politics Discussions:
Mondays in October

Our United Methodist Social Principles states, "Our involvement in political systems is rooted in the gospel imperative to love our neighbors, to do justice, and to care for the vulnerable. As United Methodists, we acknowledge that love requires responsible political action and engagement aimed at the betterment of society and the promotion of the common good." How do we do that in a divided political system? How do we remain faithful to our calling as Christians in a context that has an "us vs. them" mentality that seeks to dehumanize opponents and encourages discord?

Join Pastor Jeff on Mondays in October from 6:30–8:00 pm, in person or online, as we discuss ways we can navigate the troubled waters of the political process. We’ll explore a brief history of religious political engagement, dive deep into the United Methodist Social Principles, and seek ways to follow our faith in a time of great division. Click here to sign up today! Contact Pastor Jeff (JeffP@visitasbury.org) with any questions.

November Sermon Series: "Joyful, Anyway"

How do we find meaning in the midst of struggles? How do we experience joy when difficulties both personal and societal seem to always get in the way? As we jump into November and prepare for the big Holiday Season, how can we offer thanks even as we endure the aches and pains of daily living?

Starting November 8 in worship, we’ll be starting a new Sermon Series titled "Joyful, Anyway," based on Kate Bowler’s book of the same name. In her book, Bowler (you may remember a few Lents ago we used her "Good Enough" as inspiration for worship) details how to experience joy (apart from happiness), even in the midst of life’s struggles (hers are based in part on her own journey with cancer).

You are welcome to read the book as a personal devotion or Sunday School class study as we dive in worship exploring the aches of life, the mourning we experience all leading to the joy of living. What does it mean to go ahead and lose control? How can joy happen when we carry so much grief? We’ll explore these questions and more in November!
