Hadih and hello.
And just like that, it’s December.
The holidays are here, along with the hustle and bustle of the season (I’ve never understood the phrase “hustle and bustle” because it’s redundant, like when the hockey announcers say the players are “pushing and shoving” – sorry, word guy musings).
Anyhow, before I get too caught up in holiday cheer, I want to acknowledge those of you who find this time of year difficult because it coincides with painful anniversaries or the short days play havoc on your mental health. As the flight attendants tell us before takeoff, if the cabin depressurizes and the masks drop, put yours on first before helping others. In other words, take care of yourself and do what you need to do to keep yourself safe and healthy.
For those of us who love this time of year (not just the holidays but the snow and cold of winter), we can both celebrate the season and do our part to help others, whether that’s donating to the food bank or the United Way’s Tree of Lights or giving your time ringing the bells for the Salvation Army or helping set up the Celebration of Lights at the Railway Museum. Whatever way we give back at this time of year, it makes Prince George a better place and adds to our enjoyment of the season.
What also makes Prince George a better place is supporting other local businesses in your holiday gift giving. When we shop local as much as we can, we all win.
I hope to see all of you at the Chamber’s December open house, a special partnership with Community Futures and Downtown Prince George, on December 13th from 2-4 pm. We’ll have a lane of Seventh Avenue closed for our outdoor block party so bundle up and come on down for some warm bevvies, sweet snacks, and holiday cheer.
If I don’t see you there, all of my best to you and yours over the holiday season and wishing you the greatest personal and business success in 2025. I look forward to working with all of you to help make that happen.
Neil
