Coming Home for a New Beginning
by Danielle Shroyer
For almost a decade, Danielle Shroyer has been an important member of Transfiguration, preaching, teaching, and offering spiritual direction. After discerning a call to the priesthood, this August Danielle and her husband Dan will move to Virginia Theological Seminary so she can conduct an intensive year-long Anglican Studies program. It is a joy to send out such remarkable people to serve and lead the wider Church! – Father Casey
The first time I came to Transfiguration was as the parent of a new Kindergartener at Parish in 2008. I remember my soul’s delight when I stepped into the beautiful sanctuary with its midcentury modern aesthetic and beautiful iconography above the altar. At the time, I was serving as the Pastor of Journey, a nontraditional emerging church. And yet, so much of the Fig felt like a homecoming. I too attended an Episcopal school growing up, and daily chapel remains a holy place on my own spiritual journey of faith. Were it not for those hymns, prayers, and rituals, I don’t think I’d ever have become the pastor of the hip emerging church with couches. And I don’t think I’d have had the space for my parishioners’ big questions if the Episcopal church had not taught me so well to sit with the beauty of mystery. Every time I visited this sanctuary, it was as if the little Anglican tug on my heart grew a little stronger.
When I became a member here after leaving pastoral ministry, I arrived in the pews exhausted, and I told Fr. Casey I just needed some time to breathe, and to be. I will never be able to put into words how much it meant...

Many who are new to the Fig may not know that on the roof of the nave there is one of the larger installations of solar tiles in North Texas, if not the state as a whole. It keeps us dry when it rains and it works hard when the sun shines. We are nearing peak solar production right now and here are some interesting statistics.
So far this year, the roof has generated 30.7 MWh of electricity up 52% from this time last year. That's enough electricity to power 3 houses for a full year or to enable 4 EVs to drive around the world. It has saved 25 tons of carbon emissions – equivalent to planting 368 trees. Amazing what can be done when we take seriously our stewardship of God's creation.

Children's Chapel

Acolytes learn about the church's traditions and see the "backstage" work of the services. It is an important way for our children to be involved in the worship of our church family. If you are interested, please contact Brooke Robb.
