Falling Into Focus: Classroom Management & Calm for October

Hey Teacher Fam,

October is here, and that means we’re officially in full swing! 🍂 By now, the rhythms of your classroom are beginning to take shape — and whether your days feel smooth or a little wild, please know that what you’re doing matters. Every routine you build, every system you tweak, and every moment of patience you give your students is shaping their success in ways you might not even see yet.

This month, we’re focusing on Classroom Management — not just the strategies and tools that keep things running, but the heart behind it: creating spaces where students feel safe, seen, and ready to learn. Inside this issue, you’ll find resources to help you stay organized, ideas to bring calm to your classroom, and reminders to take care of yourself too.

You’re doing incredible work — and we see you. Let’s keep building classrooms that not only manage learning, but inspire it. 💛

With appreciation,

Chelsea Davis

Director of Educator Engagement

This month’s spotlight will help you strengthen relationships, build trust, and create a positive classroom culture that keeps students engaged and learning.

Building Strong Connections

Why It Matters

Starting strong with classroom management is all about routines and relationships — the foundation of every successful classroom. While procedures keep your day running smoothly, relationships are what truly make students want to follow your lead.

💡 Try This: The 2x10 Rule

Spend two minutes a day for ten days connecting with a student who’s been challenging your classroom management. Talk about their interests, weekend plans, or something positive they did that day. It’s simple — and it works.

Why it works:

Behavior challenges often stem from unmet needs for attention or connection. By intentionally investing time in one student, you show them they’re seen and valued, which builds trust and reduces negative behaviors.

How to put it into practice:

  • Greet the student by name at the door or in the hallway.
  • Ask a quick question about their hobbies or something they enjoy.
  • End the conversation on a positive note — a smile, encouragement, or a thank you.
  • Keep it consistent — the power of this strategy is in repetition and sincerity.

Over time, you’ll notice small shifts — fewer disruptions, more engagement, and a student who starts to see your classroom as a safe, supportive space.

Wellness and Balance Corner

You give so much—don’t forget to give to yourself.

This corner offers quick wellness tips, time-saving hacks, and gentle reminders that rest, joy, and boundaries matter too.

This Month’s Tip

Calm is Contagious

Classroom management isn’t just about strategies — it starts with you. Your energy sets the tone for your classroom, and when you stay calm, your students are more likely to mirror that same energy. A calm presence communicates safety, consistency, and confidence — all of which help students settle in and focus.

💡 Why it Works

Students often reflect the emotional climate we create. When they sense calm, they feel secure and supported, making it easier for them to follow directions, stay engaged, and manage their own emotions. A calm teacher helps the whole classroom find balance.

✨ Try It

  • Pause before responding to off-task behavior — a single deep breath can change your reaction.
  • Speak slower and lower — calm tones signal control and invite attention, not resistance.
  • Use short pauses between transitions or directions to let both you and your students reset.

Pro Tip: Even a small shift in your tone and pacing can turn chaos into calm — and help you feel more grounded throughout your day.
