Sharing the Good News, Telling Our Stories | |
St. Alban the Martyr Episcopal Church, Morehead and Church of the Ascension, Frankfort, have developed a supporting partnership reminiscent of a "sister cities" arrangement. The idea developed after St. Alban's spoke up in a budget hearing with concerns over the diocese's plan for for changes in budgeting for Mountain Missions. Father Peter Dodema of Ascension reached out to St. Albans' Bishop's Warden wondering how Ascension could support St. Alban's. That outreach has led the two churches to meet regularly, sharing the Eucharist and talking about the challenges and opportunities.
The relationship has made St. Alban's feel less isolated, said St. Alban's parishioner Judith Yancy. She and members of St. Alban's encourage other congregations to look at the possibility of forming similar relationships. St. Alban's has also actively sought relationships with other churches in their community, including a partnership with First Baptist, Morehead. One of the ministers there said the relationship "furthers the mission of the Church Universal."

Partnership with Diocese of Nampula and Niassa
Inaugural call with the Dioceses of Nampula and Niassa. We want to set up a joint Bible study in September to pray together and get to know each other. This would lead to a visit in 2025 and the possibility of establishing a companion link.

The "BE" BOX: Coming Soon!
Are you ready for some fun? In early August, each congregation will receive a BE Box from the diocese. This toolkit will include a fall BENGO game, a challenge from Bishop Mark, and lots of other ideas and resources for ways to BE in relationship with God, in the church, in the community, and in the world. Ask your faith leader to share the goodies in the BE Box and watch for ways you can participate!
This is all about living into our mission to Be the Church. Be the Change. Download one of the DioLex graphics to use on your congregation's social media channels (or your own!) by visiting our Social Media Resources page.

Today we remember and pray for these clergy who serve in these various capacties. There are too many to list here—53!— but you can read their names in your prayers by referring to the diocesan intercessory prayer list.

Reading Rocks
Since 2013, Church of the Ascension, Frankfort, has been hosting the Frankfort Reading Camp, a week-long summer camp program that is free to kids entering grades 3-5 who need some extra help with reading. Deacon Rebecca Saager organizes and directs the camp. This year, the campers had a blast with field trips, special visitors, crafts, games, a splendid rendition of "Little Red Riding Hood," and, of course, a lot of reading!
