From the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the unfortunate passing of retired Oswego County Sheriff Reuel “Moe” Todd, who passed away peacefully at his home, with his wife and family by his side.”
Sheriff Todd began his career with the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office in 1974. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1977 and that same year promoted to Criminal Investigator by former Sheriff Ray Chesboro. In 1984 he was appointed by former Sheriff Charles Nellis to the position of Undersheriff, then elected Sheriff in 1999. He served as Sheriff for almost 20 years before retiring in 2018 due to health issues.
The Oswego County Public Safety building was dedicated last year in honor of “Moe,” recognizing his deep ties to the building and the Office of the Sheriff throughout his 44-year career in law enforcement. He was an active member of the New York State Sheriffs’ Association, serving as President and as a long-term member of the Executive Committee, including Chairman of the Committee prior to his retirement.
The New York State Sheriffs’ Association extends its sincere sympathies to Sheriff Todd’s wife, Valerie, and family.
