Ahoy HHYC!

Yay!! The 2026 season was, again, a wonderful cruising year; and our recent “Rock the Dock” gathering at Bell Harbor was a supreme finish to this year’s water-based voyages. Deepest thanks to our own Robert Dahlin (and his beloved bride Adrienne) for serving as DJ Extraordinaire, master of ceremonies, and Karaoke crooner. Cooperative weather, fine food, and welcoming, cheerful friendships were the rule. A wonderful time by any standard.

Next up is the long-awaited “Mahogany & Merlot” land cruise to Lake Chelan. Regrettably, Kim & I will miss this event, as we will be jet-setting to Greece; but with the joyful group of the HHYC faithful attending, I doubt we will be missed much.

Our next HHYC event after M&M will be our dinner meeting at Razzi’s in Greenwood on Tuesday, October 13th. I am grateful that Vice Commodore Steve has graciously consented to fill-in for me, as we will still be burning copious amounts of very expensive jet fuel traversing the globe.

Later, on October 30th is our annual Commodore’s Ball; again, held this year at the Hotel Murano in Tacoma. This is our opportunity to recognize and thank not just the HHYC Bridge, but also the Board and other important volunteers that make HHYC the truly special club we are.

Sign-ups this year have been slow to roll in; and time is of the essence. Please sign up, and plan to join us for an evening of jubilant celebration, camaraderie, and great food. After October 8th, if we haven’t met the minimum of 17 rooms reserved HHYC will pay a penalty. So, plan to join us and book your attendance soon! Looking forward to seeing you there.

We wish all our HHYC family good health, high spirits and lots of laughter.

Cheers, Rick & Kim

Steve Rittereiser,

Ahoy and happy October. What a wonderful boating season we have had this year. Perhaps a few more sunny days are ahead before we secure our lines.

The annual Commodore’s Ball is right around the corner, Friday, October 30, at Hotel Murano in Tacoma. This is the club’s signature event designed to honor the leadership of Rick, Kim and the many volunteers that make our club so special. I’m hoping everyone can attend. Please sign up on the Website.  We still have rooms available at a very discounted rate.

Wendy and I did not make it to Rock the Dock, but the posted photos revealed what a great time you all had. Some of our karaoke singers may be ready to audition for The Voice. We were in Spain and Portugal most of the month of September. We visited Madrid, Seville, Lisbon, Porto and Barcelona. The weather was splendid throughout our journey and led us to a couple of opportunities to be on the water. In Seville, we did a sightseeing tour on the Guadalquivir River and saw many of Seville’s monumental cathedrals and buildings from a river boat. In Porto, we enjoyed a tour in wine country along the Douro River in a Rabelo boat. These are long traditional wooden boats historically used to transport Port wine into the cities before the advent of railways. Today, these long, narrow-shaped, flat-bottom boats are primarily for tourist cruises.

Thank you Mike and Sue for all your effort in putting together our land cruise to Chelan. Wendy and I have really been looking forward to seeing everyone at one of Washington’s great wine regions.

Enjoy!

Steve

The Mahogany & Merlot Rendezvous

First let me thank Sue & Mike Burke for hosting. This was a gorgeous house overlooking the lake. In fact, we were actually sitting in the hot tub watching the hydroplane races. Then you could go out the backdoor, walk about 20 steps, and arrive at the winery. Talk about having everything. We also had folks staying at an Airbnb, timeshare, or campground. It was a great time!
