Join Us for the Golden Pyramid Scholars Program & College Signing Day
|
It is that time of the year to celebrate youth achieving excellence in education! Since 1994, we have been celebrating our youth for academic success. Special thanks to our founding program event leaders who created this opportunity.
Join us in celebrating our youth with a 3.5 GPA and above. The Urban League and our partners will distribute student scholarships at this event.
In partnership with Grossmont College, the Urban League of San Diego County is hosting the 2024 Annual Golden Pyramid Scholars Award Ceremony for students in grades 8th through 12th who have maintained a cumulative 3.5 or higher grade point average. The event will occur at Grossmont College on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.
Family members, friends, community leaders, and board members will participate in a salute of these student power players with high scholastics. In contrast, community and academic leaders promote a college-going culture of academic success. The Urban League designed this program to identify, recruit, cultivate, and support students striving to achieve academic and economic excellence. The college venue exposes students to a college campus and reinforces the perception of college as a viable and achievable option.

National College Resources Foundation, producers of the Black College Expo, San Diego County Office of Education, and the Association of African American Educators invite San Diego Black High School Graduates to participate in our FREE Rites of Passage Celebration on Monday, June 3rd, 6 pm -8 pm at Bayview Baptist Church, in the MLK Center, Auditorium.
A Rite of Passage is defined as an African ritual or experience that marks a major milestone or change in a person’s life. We want to celebrate the 2024 San Diego Black Graduates, both 8th grade and 12th grade. Each 8th-grade graduate will receive a Rites of Passage bracelet, and each graduating senior will receive a Kente Cloth Sash that they can wear for graduation and other events and ceremonies in their lives.
Rites of Passage ceremonies have one trait in common: They provide a social frame to ease an individual into a new stage without creating uneasiness or disruption. In a nutshell, they provide a way to make official an important change. And you are changing, transitioning, and transforming from one stage of your life to the next. Rites of passage foster a sense of renewal since they begin a new phase in your life. They remind us that we are constantly evolving and that life is a transformative journey. On the other hand, they also provide a sense of belonging, since a rite of passage is always performed by and for a community and that's why we want to celebrate you Monday, June 3rd, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in African Tradition “A Rites of Passage”.
Please register today! It's Free! Refreshments will be served. Family members are invited. For any questions, contact brittny@ncrfoundation.org.
Congratulations, class of 2024. We are so proud of you.

Free Money For Young People

Dear Community Partner,
We know that among the many barriers youth face when deciding to pursue their college and career dreams, cost is often cited as the most prevalent challenge. In 2022, Governor Newsom sent a direct message to California youth- not only does California believe they are college material, but we are investing in them directly. More than 3.6 million students across California became eligible for college savings accounts for the first time in the State's history.
CalKIDS is a new program from the State of California that provides eligible families with free money for college. California newborns can receive up to $175, and eligible California public school students can receive up to $1,500.* CalKIDS was created to help families kickstart their college savings plan and increase access to higher education.
We need your help to ensure that every eligible newborn and student can access their savings account. Help us uplift this information with your network. Consider sending this email to your network, including this information at your next meeting, and sharing CalKIDS flyers at your next community event. Additional outreach materials, including a comprehensive marketing materials toolkit, are available on the CalKIDS website. Flyers, informational videos, and posters are available in several languages, including English, Spanish, and Chinese.
Thank you for your partnership on this historic effort.
Sincerely,
Maurice
