Community News Round-Up

The final legs of the semester come with a definite—and bittersweet—change of pace. We're excited to settle into the quieter rhythm of the summer, though at the same time, our hearts are heavy as we begin saying goodbye to folks whose affiliations with the FCWSRC end with the academic year. This year, in addition to sending off our wonderful Research Associate cohort and undergraduate Research Collaboratory students, our community will also be saying goodbye to our Program Coordinator, Lily Sendroff, who is starting a PhD program in the Department of Political Science at Duke University this upcoming academic year.

In this week's Community News Round-Up, you can expect to find: A special announcement about Lily's departure; details about a celebration of life for Laura L. Lovett at Smith College; a community call for local housing leads for our incoming cohort of Research Associates; and, as always, upcoming events and recent celebrations.

Pictured above: Research Collaboratory students at their final team meeting of the semester; a Monday morning Write Together; and the (now lush and green!) view from our Write Together space.

Thank You to Lily Sendroff,

Outgoing ï»żFCWSRC Program Coordinator!

Please join me in thanking Lily Sendroff, FCWSRC Program Coordinator, as this July will mark the conclusion of her time in this role. Lily joined the Center in January 2023, and her care and coordination is instrumental to everything the Center does. She's indespensible to our Feminist Writing Community (for which she co-conceptualized our Pop-Up Write Togethers, which take place across the Five College campuses, putting feminist scholars from across our communities into one another's orbits); our Research Associate Program (for which she designed an orientation program that takes newly-arrived Associates on excursions to archives and museums across our campuses, enriching the work of our visiting scholars while cultivating feminist community); and our undergraduate Research Collaboratory (through which she teaches students feminist archival practice as they process three decades of FCWSRC materials). She’s also the driving force behind our communications (including keeping us all informed of feminist happenings in the Five Colleges and beyond, through bi-weekly Community News Round-Ups like this one). On a personal note, I’ll add when I took the reins as FCWSRC Director at the start of this year, Lily’s sense of institutional clarity and feminist camaraderie instantly made doing this work a pleasure.

Lily is embarking on a new chapter at Duke University, where she is undertaking a PhD in political theory with a focus on feminist political thought and political economy. We are tremendously excited for her to develop work across these areas and we wish her much success in her PhD and beyond.

Li Cornfeld

Director, FCWSRC

Each year, the FCWSRC welcomes a cohort of feminist scholars to be in residence at Hampshire College as part of our Research Associate Program. We deeply value help from our local community with connecting incoming Research Associates with trustworthy, affordable, and convenient local housing options.
