Celebrating Queenie and Ruggles

In the past month, we’ve had to say goodbye to two very special residents at June’s: Queenie and Ruggles.

Queenie was a tailless Calico cat who joined us last year at age 16 from a busy shelter where her kidney disease prevented her from finding a furever home. While shy around other cats, Queenie was definitely a people cat. She loved to greet her foster mom and hang out with her, and she loved to nap in the sunlight and curling up in a warm bed.

18-year-old Ruggles came to us through our Feline Legacy Program in January from an owner who was going into memory care. This sweet white-and-gray boy loved to hang out with our founder, Janet, in her office while she worked, and he even found a favorite sunny spot on a cat bed by the window.

Being with our seniors during their final days is at the heart of what we do. It’s one of the most difficult—and most meaningful—parts of our mission. While losing a cat never gets easier, it’s an emotional burden we gladly take on. We take comfort in knowing that our cats aren’t alone and confused when they cross the Rainbow Bridge. Instead, they’re surrounded by the comfort and love they deserve, and we are thankful we can provide that.

Your generosity is the reason these cats get to spend their final days surrounded by love… and the reason we can say yes to the next cat who needs us. As we continue to care for cats like Queenie and Ruggles, we humbly ask for your support. Your contribution, whether through our wishlist or as a tax-deductible gift, allows us to provide life-saving care and love to the senior cats in our care.

Volunteer Opportunities

Are you looking for a way to help June's grow our mission of providing lifesaving and lifelong care to senior cats? Why not volunteer? June's is looking for some volunteers who have a few hours a month to assist with general community events and community outreach.

Events Volunteer Liaison

  • Contact existing volunteers via email and phone to ensure we have enough volunteers for June’s community and fundraising events; follow up when response is low to encourage volunteers to sign up for events; send 1-week and 1-day reminders to volunteers signed up to work events.
  • Assist with setting up for and participating in community events, and assist with transporting materials from Hannah’s House to the events. Instruct volunteers at onsite activities.
  • Attend Volunteer Committee Meetings in person or virtually

Community Outreach Assistant

  • Deliver and hang pre-printed flyers and materials at strategic locations around the Albuquerque area.
  • Deliver and check status of donation jars around the Albuquerque area.
  • Identify events we can participate in and communicate with our Director of Development regarding when they are.

If you're interested in helping us out a few hours a month with either of these opportunities please email us at info@jscr.org.

Artists, Crafters, and Business Owners, We Need Your Help!

Your item donations powered our success with our last online auction, and we are counting on your talents to help our cats thrive! Are you an artist or a crafter? Donate some art, jewelry, or crafts to the auction! Do you own a business or provide services? Donate a gift card or certificate! All donors are credited, and we will link auction visitors to your website.

If you have items you would like to donate, please email us at info@jscr.org to arrange for drop-off or pick-up.

Every gift, in any amount, helps us improve the lives of the cats in our care. Thank you for your kindness and generosity!
