Women Veterans Day is observed on June 12 to honor the service and contributions of women in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Women Veterans Day, also known as Women Veterans Recognition Day or Women Veterans Appreciation Day, commemorates the signing of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act by President Harry S. Truman on June 12, 1948, which allowed women to serve as permanent, regular members of the U.S. military, including the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force.

Let's Celebrate Flag Day on June 14th

"One Small Step"

What a great outing as several of our members journeyed to Jacksonville's USS Orleck Naval Museum for an evening dedicated to celebrating America's 250th anniversary sponsored by Americans for Prosperity - Concerned Veterans for America and The LIBRE Initiative. Enjoy some pictures from this event.

The Chaplain's Corner

by Scarlett Griffin, Chaplain

Prayers in Chaplain’s Corner are usually my thoughts and prayers guided by the Holy Spirit. But because Memorial Day and America’s 250th birthday are current and so important, I am using quotes and sections of tributes from other Americans as found on the internet instead of my usual scripture reading and prayer. The messages this month are from Americans paying tribute to both American veterans and our 250 years of history. No other nation was created based on the claim that human beings have certain basic equal rights that come before government. Two and a half centuries later, America is still the only nation in the world founded on this creed. Let us celebrate 250 years of advancing human freedom, living the values our founders envisioned in shaping a boundless future. For 250 years, America has stood free not by chance or accident, but because generations of veterans answered the call of duty when their country needed them. From the earliest days of the Revolutionary War to the challenges currently faced in Operation Epic Fury, America’s men and women have stepped forward to protect the very ideals upon which our nation was founded. Happy 250th, America!
