2025 SARM Midterm Convention

Registration Deadline

Registration for the 2025 SARM Midterm Convention is now open! RM offices received an email from SARM earlier this month outlining the registration process as well as the applicable fees for attendance.

Please note lunches will no longer be included in the convention registration fee. You must indicate that you would like to purchase lunches through your registration form for each applicable attendee.

The deadline to register/revise your registration is October 24, 2025.

Name badges for RM councils and administrators were mailed out to RM offices earlier this month, based on the SARM RM Directory. Any SARM members attending the convention must bring their badge to the venue, it will act as a ticket which will be scanned upon arrival.

If you have registered additional/new attendees, their name badges will be available onsite. Also, if a name badge requires updating or correcting, it will be done onsite.

Non-members can register to attend by visiting the SARM website.

Please contact convention@sarm.ca if you have any further questions about convention.

Effective October 1, 2025, the Ministry of Environment will implement a $1,000 application fee for the construction or alteration of stand-alone hazardous substance and waste dangerous goods (HSWDG) storage facilities, as regulated under the Hazardous Substances and Waste Dangerous Goods Regulations.

This fee applies to applications submitted on or after October 1, 2025. This change supports cost-recovery and enhances the efficiency of regulatory processes.

The fee applies to:

  • Approvals to construct new stand-alone HSWDG storage facilities that are not regulated through other permits or approvals by the ministry;

The fee will not apply to:

  • Repairs or replacement of pre-existing facilities, where the capacity of the facility is not increased as a result of the alteration activity;
  • Decommissioning of pre-existing facilities;
  • Administrative updates to HSWDG approvals (e.g. name changes, corrections);
  • Facilities permitted under industrial waste works approvals, pursuant to the Environmental Management and Protection (General) Regulations or the Mineral Industry Environmental Protection Regulations, including, but not limited to permitted industrial facilities, mines, refineries, industrial landfills;
  • Municipal landfills permitted under the Municipal Refuse Management Regulations;
  • HSWDG storage for activities permitted through exploratory permits and exploration licenses, under The Crown Minerals Act or The Oil and Gas Tenure Registry Regulations;
  • HSWDG storage at facilities permitted under The Oil and Gas Conservation Act; or
  • HSWDG storage at facilities that are exempt in accordance with sections 5 to 8 of the HSWDG Regulations.

Submitting an application to construct or alter a HSWDG facility will remain the same as current processes.
