Hello -

We hope this message finds you enjoying the spring weather and we wish you the best as you begin to wrap up your academic semester.

As we continue to move closer to our residential communities closing on May 16, we write today with additional details on the closing process.

We have broken our process down into three phases, which are PLAN, PACK, and PLACE. Please be sure to review the details below as you will be expected to follow our process as outlined.
PLAN

The first phase of our process is to plan for your move-out. As we noted in our previous message, “this year’s closing process will need to be more controlled than students have experienced in the past.”

  • Schedule a move-out appointment. Appointments are now available on our housing portal at go.wfu.edu/housingportal. We ask that all students schedule their appointment by April 30.
  • Appointments are 2 hours in length and intended for active moving. Details can be found on our move-out website.
  • Reminder, students are expected to check out within 24 hours of their last final.
  • Submit work orders by the last day of classes (May 6). Work orders can be submitted at workorders.wfu.edu, or by calling Customer Service at 336-758-4255. Work Orders can be submitted for the following issues: Broken blinds; Lights; Broken furniture; Leaks; Heating and Cooling issues; Etc.
  • Clean and empty your refrigerator. Please remove and dispose of everything in your refrigerator ahead of your move-out appointment time. Detailed instructions available on our move-out website.
  • If your room has a micro-fridge and you are the last to leave:
  • 48 hours prior to departure remove all items from your microfridge and defrost the unit by unplugging and setting a towel beneath the microfridge to collect water.
  • Remove the towel prior to your departure and wipe up any water that remains.
  • Clean the micro-fridge.
  • If you share a refrigerator in a suite/apartment:
  • Remove ALL of your items from common area refrigerators and freezers. This includes all refrigerators in Polo, Martin, North Campus Apartments, Student Apartments, and Road Houses.
  • Do not turn these common area refrigerators off.
  • Clean the refrigerator
  • Return your Pit To-Go container. Return your green to-go containers to The Pit or Hilltop at North Dining.
  • Clean your space. Please be sure to review expectations on our move-out website.
  • Clean the room to the best of your ability (sweep the floors and wipe down all furniture). Cleaning supplies will be available in your community’s hall office as needed.
  • Any personal property that you do not want must be disposed of at a dumpster location; failure to remove everything other than University furniture will be subject to fines.
  • All personal property left in your space will be considered abandoned property and will be disposed of.
  • Do not remove any command strips on walls – please leave in place and Facilities and Campus Services will remove.

PACK

The second phase of our process is to pack for your move-out. As we noted in our previous message, “given the need for physical distancing, the move-out appointment must be used to take your belongings from your room to your car/storage, not as a time to begin packing.”

  • Pack all belongings ahead of your Move-Out appointment. Appointments are now available on our housing portal at go.wfu.edu/housingportal. We ask that all students schedule their appointment by April 30.
  • Review the Spring 2021 Rental Textbook Check-In instructions and contact the University Bookstore with any questions around returning rental textbooks.
  • Don’t forget to pack, properly dispose of, or donate any personal items you may have had in any common space that is not your assigned room.

  • Remove all items from bathrooms, countertops and communal spaces.
  • Please make time to collect any items you have left in the laundry room(s). All items left in RL&H community laundry rooms will be collected and turned over to a local charitable organization.

  • Take bicycles, scooters and motorized bikes home. Any bikes left on campus over the summer are subject to collection by University Police.
PLACE

The final phase of our process is to place everything you will not be taking with you in the correct location.

  • Trash, donations, and recycling MUST be removed from your space prior to your departure. As you remove these items, please be sure to take them to the designated areas within your community.

  • Residents should ensure that all furniture that was in the room upon move-in is still in the space. Students will be charged for missing furniture. See our move-out website for details.

FINAL REMINDERS
  • Ensure all of your belongings have been removed and properly disposed of from any shared or common areas.
  • Close and lock your windows.
  • Leave blinds down if your room is still occupied; pull blinds up if you are the last person checking out of your room.
  • Fan coil units should be set to 70° and low fan speed.
  • Turn off the lights.
  • Lock your room door.

CHECKING OUT
  • After completing the steps above, please proceed to your community’s office to complete an express checkout. Do not leave your key(s) in your room.
  • Fill out the information on the front of the checkout envelope, sign the envelope, place your key in the envelope, and drop the envelope in the key slot.
  • If you’ve lost your key, please complete an envelope and note that you lost your key.
  • If graduating, please return mailbox keys to the post office in the Benson Center.
We hope that you enjoy the remainder of the semester!

Please stay tuned for future communications about our closing process and don’t hesitate to reach out to your Community Director or our office (housing@wfu.edu) with questions.
