BASIS ships two Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers for developers using AI coding agents with BBj, the Language MCP server and the BBj MCP server hosted by BASIS.
The language MCP server is freely available and runs on your machine. Beginning in BBj 26.03, BBj speaks MCP directly: a coding agent can compile what it wrote, read the compiler's errors, and fix them before handing the code back. The agent, the VS Code extension and the IntelliJ extension all go through the same internal parser and compiler that run your programs, so the agent is checked by BBj itself rather than by its own guess at BBj syntax.
The BBj MCP, accessible via the AI DVK, is hosted by BASIS. It indexes both the BBj documentation and a curated set of skill guides and serves them to the agent on request: knowledge of the reserved-word table (ordinary-looking names like FI, DAY, LIST and FOR that fail as variables), the verb reference, DWC theming and layout rules, are provided. The traps that AI agents fall into most often are avoided. When the agent needs a verb, a method, or a DWC control, it looks it up instead of inventing it.
Plugins for Anthropic Claude Code and OpenAI Codex install both. Your source never leaves your machine; only lookup queries go to the hosted server.
BASIS is also training a BBj-specific model on its program corpus. When it's ready, it will be added to the BBj MCP setup.
Access to the BBj MCP server is included with the AI Developer Kit (AI DVK) subscription which is now available for $99 per developer per month (billed annually). The AI DVK is a superset of the regular DVK and includes a 2-user BBj license with all optional feature lines. You can reach the BBj MCP server using either Claude or Codex via the BBj plugin.
