Surf Report Extra

Welcome to the 2026-2027 School Year!

There are many ways to get involved and support your child’s classroom throughout the school year (thank you to those that have already sent us emails - will be in touch shortly!). Below please find a quick overview of each volunteer opportunity and the general time commitment involved, so you can find an option that works for you!

Just fill out this 26/27 Parent Volunteer Form to let us know how you’d like to participate*. Additional information and opportunities will follow from HVPTO, your room parents, or your child’s teacher. Please note indicating interest does not guarantee the position until you receive a confirmation.

We know how valuable your time is and truly appreciate all levels of involvement. Whether you can help once or throughout the year, your support makes a difference. Thank you for being part of our school community!

*Please fill out a separate form per student

----------------------------

Room Parent(s) — Head, Co-Head, & Assistants — Parents help keep families connected and support the teacher throughout the school year. Great for parents who enjoy communicating, organizing and helping build classroom community. Responsibilities may include:

  • Forwarding weekly reminders and important information from your teacher and HVPTO to class families
  • Helping the teacher coordinate classroom parties and special activities
  • Collecting and managing the Class Fund and coordinating teacher gifts

Young at Art (YAA) Docent(s) — Young at Art (YAA) is a self-supporting art enrichment program consisting of six workshops throughout the school year. Local artists train parent docent volunteers, who then bring the lessons into the classroom and guide students through each art experience. No art experience necessary — training and materials are provided!

Garden Docent(s) — In partnership with Beach Cities Health District (BCHD), the LiveWell Kids Garden + Nutrition Program provides hands-on garden education with an emphasis on nutrition and healthy lifestyle habits. Garden Docents lead six lessons throughout the school year. All lesson materials are provided, and docents attend in-person training sessions through BCHD to prepare for each lesson. Great for parents who enjoy hands-on activities, gardening, nutrition or working directly with students.

Class Photographer / Yearbook Page (View/Vista only) — Help capture memories from throughout the school year! The Class Photographer takes photos at key classroom events and activities or coordinates with other parents who are on-site to make sure special moments are captured for the yearbook.

Library Helper — The Library Helper accompanies the class during its weekly library time and assists the librarian with various tasks. Time commitment: Approximately 30 minutes per week during your class’s scheduled library time. Perfect for someone looking for a consistent, short weekly volunteer opportunity.

Up for Anything! — Have a little time? Have a lot of time? Not sure what you can commit to yet? Sign up for Up for Anything! Throughout the year, we often need extra hands for projects both big and small. Opportunities may be on campus or behind the scenes and can sometimes even be completed from home.

Every little bit helps — a small amount of your time can make a big difference for our students! We look forward to working with you to make this a great school year for our kiddos!
