One Weekend. 17 Miles. One Big Adventure.
What can a group of Scouts accomplish over a three-day weekend? A whole lot!
Over Labor Day weekend, Troop 103 hit the trail for a three-day backpacking adventure to historic Sturtevant Camp—covering an impressive 17 miles along the way. And they didn’t let the pouring rain stop them from reaching their goal: summiting Mt. Wilson!
After a day of hiking through the mountains, Scouts stepped back in time at Sturtevant Camp, a historic retreat dating back to the early 1900s. With no need for screens or Wi-Fi, they enjoyed some good old-fashioned fun: card games, ping pong, badminton, and even a dip in the Zen pool.
It was a weekend filled with miles, mountains, rain, teamwork, and memories—proof that with a little determination, Scouts can turn an ordinary weekend into an unforgettable adventure!
Have a fun Scouting adventure or success story to share? We’d love to hear about it! Contact Cicily Gardea, Director of Marketing and Communications, at cicily.gardea@scouting.org, and your unit could be featured!

Movo Is Live! Have You Updated Your Unit Pin?
A quick reminder for all Greater LA Scouting unit leaders: Please take a few minutes to review and update your unit pin on BeAScout.org.
Movo, our new virtual assistant, is now live and actively responding to families interested in joining Scouting through BeAScout.org. Movo uses the information listed on your unit’s BeAScout unit pin to answer questions from prospective families.
That means the information on your unit pin needs to be accurate and up to date.
ACTION REQUIRED: Update Your Unit Pin
If you haven’t already, please review your BeAScout.org unit pin and make sure it includes current information about:
- Meeting day and time
- Meeting location
- Registration and costs
- How families can visit your unit
- Other important information for prospective families
Why is this so important? When a family reaches out through BeAScout.org, Movo may use your unit’s information to answer their questions. If your pin is outdated, families could receive incorrect or incomplete information—or miss out on an opportunity to connect with your unit.
Movo can provide families with answers within minutes, at any time of day. When a question comes up that Movo cannot answer, the unit will be notified so a leader can follow up.
Your unit pin is now an important part of your recruitment efforts. Please make sure your information is current so families can find you, get accurate answers, and take the next step toward joining Scouting.
If you haven’t updated your unit pin yet, please do it today!
Let’s make sure every Greater LA Scouting unit is ready to welcome the next family through the door.
