Billerica DECA Competes at State Competition in Boston Seaport | |
|
Billerica DECA members gathered in Boston this weekend for the annual DECA State competition held at the Boston Seaport. Students showcased their business-related projects and presentation skills while competing for coveted spots at the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) scheduled for April in Orlando, Florida.
The competition brought together talented business-minded students from across Massachusetts, all vying for the opportunity to advance to the international level. Participants demonstrated their knowledge and abilities in various business categories through presentations, case studies, and prepared business plans.
DECA, which prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management, provides students with real-world business experience and networking opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. The state competition represents a significant milestone for participants who have advanced from earlier district-level competitions.
Those who qualify at the state level will move on to represent Massachusetts at ICDC, where they'll compete against top performers from across the United States and several other countries.

Ms. Fredericks Fine Arts II Honors class participated in the Memory Project, drawing portraits of children in India. The students are Kate Gregorowicz, Vanessa Padilla, Isabela Lavoie, Ariella Kelley, Katelyn D’Agostino and Joonho Lee.
The Memory Project gets its name from its first intention, “which was to provide handmade, heartfelt portraits as special memories to children in orphanages.” Today “the intention has expanded to touching the lives of youth around the world facing many types of challenges, while opening our hearts and minds so they can touch ours in return. Together we are using art to reach a distant destination: a kinder world in which all youth see themselves in one another regardless of differences in their appearance, culture, religion, or circumstances.”
Watch the video of the children receiving their portraits.
https://vimeo.com/1057697654/1a811a36d7
The kids were absolutely thrilled to receive the portraits. The children at each location in this video face many different types of social challenges. Despite these challenges, they were all so touched to receive the works of art.

The Billerica Memorial High School boys' hockey team has made a powerful statement in the opening rounds of the MIAA Division 2 tournament, securing two decisive victories that have energized fans and established them as serious contenders.
In their tournament opener, the Billerica squad overwhelmed Newton South with an impressive 8-0 shutout. The team displayed a well-balanced offensive attack throughout the game, with contributions coming from multiple players. Senior forward Danny Viscione led the scoring effort and brought fans to their feet with a spectacular goal that will likely be remembered as one of the season's finest moments.
On the defensive end, senior goaltender Stephen MacIntosh delivered a flawless performance between the pipes, turning away every shot he faced to secure the shutout victory.
Building on their strong start, the team continued their winning ways in the Round of 16 against Norwood High School. Playing in front of an enthusiastic home crowd at the Hallenborg Ice Pavilion, Billerica dominated with a 9-1 victory that showcased both their offensive firepower and defensive discipline.
The two commanding wins have set the stage for their next challenge. Billerica will now advance to face the #8 seed Auburn High School at a neutral location later this week. As the tournament progresses, the team appears to be hitting their stride at the perfect time.
