ADULT PROGRAMS

The History of Slavery in Lewisboro
Sunday, March 7, 4:00 pm
Via Zoom

Town Historian Maureen Koehl returns, with another terrific history program set in Lewisboro.

Did you know that South Salem was previously known as Lower Salem, to distinguish it from adjacent North Salem? North Salem and Lower Salem were, prior to 1783, contained within the larger town of Salem. Lower Salem was home to several prominent slave-holding families in the early 19th century, as well as those with indentured individuals. Learn about these families and the people who labored for them.

Maureen will also discuss whether Salem might have been part of the Underground Railroad.

Lewisboro Community Volunteer Fair
Saturday, March 13, 11:00 am
Via Zoom

Want to help out in our community? The need for volunteers is more important than ever during these trying times, so we are taking our annual Community Volunteer Fair virtual this year!

The annual Lewisboro Community Volunteer Fair matches local organizations with Adult and Teen community members who want to volunteer. Usually agencies set up tables at the Library with information on their services and volunteer needs, so people can browse for the best volunteer activity to suit their interest and availability. This year we have to be creative. The Library will be the Zoom host and participating organizations will each have 5 minutes to talk about their group and their volunteer needs. Then we will have a Q & A at the end for the audience to ask questions.
