A Message from County Executive

Adam J. Bello:

"Despite the soggy weather, May was a busy month in our Monroe County parks! We opened the county’s seventh dog park in Hilton-Parma, and celebrated the 127th Lilac Festival at Highland Park. We recognized Small Business Week from May 4 – May 10 with, among other things, an announcement of our new equipment rebate program. National EMS Week was held from May 18 – May 24, and we celebrated it by awarding ARPA funding for several initiatives to strengthen these critical services. Read more about these and other new programs below, and please share this newsletter with anyone you think would be interested! Best wishes for a safe and healthy June."

What's New

Behind the Scenes at the Lilac Festival

This year’s Lilac Festival may be behind us, but the Monroe County Parks Department is already looking ahead — planning and preparing to make next year’s festival even more memorable! Hear from the county's Superintendent of Horticulture, Mark Quinn, on how they prepare Highland Park for this annual festival.

In Case You Missed It

Helping Small Businesses Make Major Equipment Purchases

In these uncertain times, it may be more difficult for small manufacturing companies to make necessary investments. With the new Equip Monroe program, rebates will help to offset the cost of major equipment purchases so small businesses can keep growing.

Starlight Pediatrics Celebrates their 35th Anniversary

Children in foster care deserve health care that meets their needs - mind, body & spirit. Starlight Pediatrics has become a model for high quality, trauma informed health and mental health services for children in foster care and has inspired national health guidelines and federal legislation. I was proud to celebrate with its founder, Dr. Moira Szilagyi.

Schools Taking the Lead in Composting

Five County school districts - Brighton, Fairport, Penfield, Pittsford, and West Irondequoit - have been chosen to receive a new Food Waste Diversion Pilot Program grant that engages with students to reduce cafeteria food waste in landfills and improve their school's environmental practices.

Strengthening Local EMS Agencies

In an emergency, every second counts. That’s why we’re investing $894K in ARPA funds in local Volunteer EMS agencies—funding new ambulances, life-saving tech & training for volunteer services. We’re not just upgrading equipment—we’re investing in people, preparedness & public safety.

In The Community

The Rochester Lilac Festival and Parade

The lilacs arrived right on cue — and so did a bit of spring rain! This annual festival marks the kickoff to our festival season and serves as a major economic boost for our community. A true rite of spring, it’s a tradition we look forward to year after year!

The Erie Canal's Bicentennial

Whether you walk a trail, paddle or cruise the canal, or attend one of the upcoming bicentennial events - it's time to celebrate what makes our canal towns unique!

Monroe County Sheriff Ride Along

The best way to truly learn is to see and hear it for yourself. I got to see firsthand the dedication, professionalism, and courage they bring to the job every day. Thank you to Sheriff Baxter and the MSCO Zone C deputies for welcoming me and for the work they do 24/7 to protect and serve our community.

Our Community Salutes

I was honored to meet 60 area high school students who are enlisting in the military after graduation. I’m grateful for their commitment to our nation and pledge to support them and their families during and after their service.
