Message from Our CEO

On December 5, over 40 returning and brand-new Chamber board members gathered around a U-shaped table to listen, learn, inform and prioritize goals for the 2025 Chamber year. They came prepared, having completed a comprehensive review of member survey results, focus group input, committee accomplishments and future trends for chambers of commerce. With the ongoing rush of professional and family life, it was impressive to see CPAs, construction business owners, developers, non-profit executives, small business owners and others commit to a full 8-hour day of strategic planning on how they can best serve our parish and business community through their leadership on the Chamber board.

Beginning with an inspiring message from the Tulsa, OK Chamber CEO, discussions focused on critical issues including: educating citizens about property and sales taxes; the potential impact of the parish sales tax rededication; state tax reform measures on the March ballot; unifying existing business groups; input on the newly appointed Home Rule Charter committee's proposed revisions (including a potential reduction of the parish council size); and the establishment of a Chamber Foundation.

Participants expressed that this was the best board planning retreat to date. Special thanks to Carrie Calvin, our 2025 Chairman-Elect, Chris Abadie, our outgoing 2024 Chairman, and all 2024 committee chairs for their catalytic leadership in advancing our Chamber's success.

Louisiana Voters Approve All Four Constitutional Amendments

In Saturday's election Louisiana voters approved all four constitutional amendments, adding rules on passing the budget, overhauling how local governments handle tax-delinquent properties and changing the makeup of the commission that oversees judicial ethics. Read more.
