Now that Mercury has stationed direct on July 23rd, it comes 3 days before Saturn stations retrograde on July 26, which joins the retrograde parade of Neptune and Pluto, followed by Uranus and Venus, which retrograde September 10 and October 3. With Mercury direct, things that may have been slow to materialize due to Mercury’s retrograde movement, will begin to move forward or at least have resolution. But due to the retrogrades the reversal in communication might be slower than usual, and not completely felt until Mercury leaves the retrograde arc (shadow) on August 7, 2026. But for now let's focus on Mercury moving direct, and below this section, Saturn stationing retrograde.

What follows below is adapted from other newsletters about Mercury, but the dates and degrees are different.

As we see above, Mercury stations direct on July 23, 2026, but it will stay in the retrograde arc or shadow until August 7, 2026, when Mercury crosses the degree where it stationed retrograde on June 29, 2026. That means that if you have a planet, point, or angle around that degree you may be especially affected by the current Mercury retrograde cycle. Otherwise as a general rule, the three weeks of the retrograde (though often bringing petty disagreements due to lack of clarity or inability to listen to others, communication and transportation delays, and other slowdowns) was the perfect time to review situations, revise projects, and even getting counseling for a situation you want to change.

This Mercury retrograde period was especially challenging and continues in that vein due, at least on one level, to the peace negotiations between the United States and Iran that have slowed down and even faltered. Will they take a different turn now that Mercury is direct? As I said above the turnaround will be slow due to Saturn joining Pluto and Neptune in moving retrograde. Throughout the world, and in your personal and work life, you might also find that negotiations, business dealings, and general communication resolves more slowly than usual. Think about meeting someone halfway and compromising rather than prolonging a standstill. Seeking clarity, understanding, and working together is most important. Everyone should feel a change in the energy around us, even though Saturn retrogrades on July 26, so the change might not be that palpable, though as you scroll below to see the degrees and signs affected, it might mean more to you than a general outlook. Still, snafus that you may have felt under Mercury retrograde will begin to clear up, but may still linger until Mercury leaves the retrograde arc (shadow) on August 7, 2026, when the planet regains its usual speed.

As I said above, the fact that Mercury will station direct is a mark of optimism. We can aim for clarity, better communication, and sound business judgment. Use these next few weeks to increase communication, and to try to resolve differences with people close to you personally and professionally. Some of those differences may require honesty, and each party agreeing to disagree and not to blame but to just move on and think about the positive connectivity that you share. Other differences you may have may be trivial and in retrospect seem very silly.

It's important in that if you have a planet, point, or angle in between Tropical. 16° Cancer 18'-26° Cancer 15'. Sidereal. 22° Gemini 10’-2° Cancer 07’ where Mercury retrograded, you may have felt this particular Mercury retrograde more than usual. Because retrograde and direct stations are points of power and intensity, often powerful events occur around the station both in the world or your personal life, and even if that Mercury did not hit a significant planet, point, or angle in your chart, it will still travel through a particular house. (In this case it is where tropical Cancer and sidereal Gemini and Cancer lie.) At least there is more opportunity for negotiating on a direct Mercury, though I would suspect that things will begin in a new direction and will really take shape after August 7, 2026, when it leaves the retrograde arc (shadow). You can also look at this to measure things in your own life that you would like to be started, resolved, or even ended so that you can move forward. It is important to remember that Saturn retrogrades as usual for 4 ½ months from July 26-December 10, 2026 so Mercury’s direct movement forward will not necessarily move as quickly as it usually does. The good news is that we won't have to deal with that pesky Mercury retrograde again until October 24-November 13, 2026.

Since retrogrades are a period of reflection and revision, and since the planets slow up, think about what you realized or worked on over the last month or two and get to work on now realizing those goals and plans. This area of your life might have become unpredictable, may have slowed down, or taken an unexpected turn but now they will straighten out and move forward. Now that the Retrograde Parade has begun, we will see that there are three retrograde planets: Pluto, Neptune, Saturn until Uranus retrogrades on September 10. There will be then 4 retrograde planets until Venus retrogrades on October 3 and then there will be 5 until Pluto stations direct on October 15, so just as in previous years, the late summer and early fall, brings a slow progression and a reversal of things that may have been put forward. That could be our personal lives, or the world outside ourselves.

Some of this is adapted from previous newsletters about Saturn stationing retrograde though of course the dates and degrees are different.

As seen above Saturn retrogrades for about 4 1/2 months each year, so that for a little more than 1/3 of the year, it might seem as if things are manifesting more slowly and projects you are working on need to get revised in order for them to work out. As a general rule, you may have to learn patience since everything seems to take a little longer. Again, that is a very general way of viewing Saturn retrograde.

What is most important are the dates and degrees that Saturn stations retrograde and direct, as you can see above, since the planet has already parked on the stationary degree the week or two before and after the retrograde and direct stations. Since Saturn represents structure, including building and rebuilding, this transit can be more productive in the long-term, even though it might be disappointing in the short-term.

If you have a planet, point, or angle in your chart within the degrees of the retrograde and direct stations, then Saturn will transit that three times, and will bring you down to earth, and help materialize things you have been working on. If you have a planet, point, or angle in your chart on the same degree as the retrograde or direct station, Saturn will cross that degree twice, once when it stations, and another time either before or after that date. In that case, the transit will affect you most significantly. Scroll below to see which planets and houses it may affect in your chart.

You may also be affected if you have something around the degrees of the opposition as well. Most important for the state of the world are about a week before and after the stations and the opposition, which are as follows: between July 19-30, September 26-October 11, and December 3-17, due to the intensity of the stations and opposition since Saturn slows its speed. Watch those dates for intensity and upheavals in the world, or events that bring sadness, destruction, or just a stalemate that needs action for it to be resolved. It also means that you should slow down, and make sure you listen to what others have to say, since Saturn can accentuate stubbornness and hard-headedness and really requires people moving towards compromise and listening to one another. Patience, tolerance, and ability to persevere with Saturn retrograde will prove very useful. Expect things to be tense during that time in the world, and if lessons are learned then we will move in another direction of restructuring and rebuilding.

If you do not have anything around the degrees of the retrograde and direct stations, or the Sun opposite Saturn, you still should look at the sign and house Saturn retrograde travels through. Wherever that falls in your chart will show where Saturn slows up and what may need to be revised and rebuilt. In some cases, it may mean starting all over again and not being attached to what was created. That could be a business, a project, or even a relationship with a business partner, friend, or romantic partner. Because you may get stalled on something that will make a difference the frustration may just become too great. Be patient, and flexible, since wherever Saturn falls is where you will be slowed down, but where you must work hard and stand the test of time, and if you do that, you could be successful, or you might just keep plodding along for the next few months.

In this series of 3 classes, we will add Aṣṭakavarga (division of eight parts) to our tool box. This eight-fold division is used to weigh strengths and weaknesses of the houses in the natal chart as well as strength and weakness of transits (gocara). This is a great system, which seems complex but is much easier than it looks. We will unpack how bindus deposit positive points, and rekhas deposit negative points, resulting in the rating system of each house. This system will be explained methodically using chart examples and looking at the transits of the next six months to see how each transiting planet fares.

July 2026 Lunations: Full Moon and New Moon (Times listed in GMT)

Looking at the placements of the lunations of July 2026, if you have any planets, points, or angles around those degrees (I would take a one-two degree orb) then whatever is represented by that planet, point, or angle, will be prominent and important until the next lunation, meaning that if something in your chart is conjunct the degree of this month's New Moon on July 14, 2026, it may be prominent until next month's New Moon Solar Eclipse on August 12, 2026. If something in your chart is conjunct the degree of this month's Full Moon on July 29, 2026, it may be prominent until next month's Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on August 28, 2026.

The New Moon represents beginnings and can help you to institute a change you have been thinking about while the Full Moon is an accomplishment or culmination and gives the push to continue on that path. If you have planets, points, or angles conjunct this month's lunations, you will feel a need to take action with either something new (New Moon) or the manifestation of something you have been working on (Full Moon). Of course, the houses that these lunations fall in, will highlight those areas of life as well.

If your birthday is between July 13-15, then the New Moon is in your solar return (varṣaphala), the annual birthday chart, or close enough that it will be important for the year ahead until your next birthday, meaning that a change is bound to happen, so work on that change. It could be a physical move, job change, relationship change, or simply working on yourself to integrate new patterns and habits into your life. Expect a great deal of transformative experiences that will make you want to change or take a step in a different direction. Take your time but do head in that direction, since otherwise it will happen to you whether you initiate it or not.

If your birthday is between July 28-July 30, then the Full Moon is in your solar return (varṣaphala), the annual birthday chart, or close enough that it will be important for the year ahead until your next birthday, meaning that it may be a year when things you have been working on will manifest, or feel like they are moving in the right direction, so continue with whatever is fulfilling you. Set your intentions high and gather your confidence since this is the year when things will take place. The Full Moon on your birthday is especially important since the year ahead will be even more significant than usual. Make sure that you are prepared to make those changes that come with manifesting your hopes, otherwise they can pass you by.

The July lunations also occurred on the same dates and degrees in 1969, 1988 and 2007 according to the 19-year Metonic cycle so think about anything important that might have occurred in that birthday year.
