Thank You for Conserving Water When It Mattered Most

To our 1.9 million customers in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties: thank you.

When an electrical issue at our Potomac Water Filtration Plant disrupted normal operations this week, we asked customers to use water for essential purposes only. You responded and your conservation efforts made a real difference.

We are grateful to our customers for their extraordinary conservation efforts and to our state, county and local officials for their partnership and support throughout this incident.

Our work does not stop with the immediate response. We continue the examination of the electrical systems at the Potomac Water Filtration Plant to take corrective actions now and use what we learn to further strengthen the resilience of this critical facility through planned projects.

Be Prepared: Make Water Part of Your Emergency Kit

The recent essential-water-use-only request is a good reminder of the importance of being prepared for any emergency that could affect your water service.

Keep at least one gallon of water per person, per day for a minimum of three days as part of your emergency kit. Remember to include extra water for pets. Commercially bottled water is best for emergency storage.

Keep stored water away from heat, light and chemicals, and follow the expiration or best-by date on bottles.

This week’s electrical issues at the Potomac Water Filtration Plant are also an important reminder to stay connected with WSSC Water.

New Maryland Law Opens More Doors for Businesses

House Bill 1230 took effect October 1, building on the pathways we’ve created for small, local, and underserved businesses. The new law gives WSSC Water more ways to expand participation and connect our contracts to local jobs and economic growth. Thank you to Governor Wes Moore and our state leaders for making this possible.

We’re opening more doors, building stronger partnerships, and creating more opportunities for businesses.
