Pizza + Beer = Fun

at

BREWPORT

an event organized and led by Doug Weber, Y's Man member

Y's Men are having a special lunch at Brewport at noon on Friday, February 16.

This was a great trip when we did it in 2023, and it will be even better this year.

In addition to the best pizza this side of New Haven,

Brewport features 24 beers on tap, many brewed at Brewport.

We'll be entertained by Jeff Browning, who regaled us with an entertaining history of beer at the Library in November.

He'll talk about the building that houses the brewery

and the colorful people who were "rubbed out" under previous owners.

We'd like to cap the event at 40 people, so, please reserve a slot.

To reserve and for further information, please email Doug Weber.

Architect Philip Dodd talked about Beaux-Arts architecture in "The Gilded Age."

Philip Dodd Educates Us on "The Gilded Age"

Last Thursday, Architect Phillip Dodd discussed his book "An American Renaissance: Beaux-Arts Architecture in New York City” offering insight into the mansions and other ego-driven monuments emerging through the incredible wealth generated during the Industrial Age.

American Renaissance, also referred to as "The Gilded Age," is an era associated with unparalleled growth, technological advancement, prosperity, and cultural change. He took us through the stories and sights of these amazing structures, many of which dazzle us to this day.

Enjoy the video and stories from the mansions to the mausoleums built through Gilded Age ego competition.

There's a Y's Men Chess Club Forming

Several Y's Men have indicated interest in joining a Chess Club, and Y's Man Manny Sousa is hosting the effort to launch this new activity. He's a chess novice who looks forward to having some fun while improving his skill.

"I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas for how we can make this a great experience for all of us," Manny said. "Please let me know your level of interest - how much time you’d like to spend playing, and your approximate chess skill level (novice, intermediate, expert, or Grand Master). It also would be fun to learn how you got into the game."
