Dear District 113 Community,
Jacob Blake. We are deeply disturbed by the pattern of what we hope to be routine encounters with police turning into tragedies. A pattern that seems to be generated by racist policies and practices within some police departments throughout our country and one where Black and Brown people are paying with their lives. While it is always prudent, this moment is especially crucial for us as a school district to confront our own racial history and imperfections, which we can see in course enrollment patterns, discipline patterns, and most importantly through the eyes of our students. And in doing so, we want you to know that we are committed to challenging racism, addressing inequities, and continuing our own development in racial consciousness. We will actively work alongside our local police departments, community, staff, and students as agents of change in order to achieve equity and inclusion and end systemic racism in our schools and throughout our communities.
Peacefully,
Mirah Anti
Director of Equity and Inclusion
