The Baldwin County School District recognized our media specialists and media clerks in honor of National Library Week and National School Librarian Day.
National Library Week was April 4-10. The theme for this year is “Welcome to Your Library.” The purpose of this year's theme is to promote the idea that libraries extend far beyond the four walls of a building – and that everyone is welcome to use their services. During the pandemic, libraries have been going above and beyond to adapt to our changing world by expanding their resources and continuing to meet the needs of their users. Whether people visit in person or virtually, libraries offer opportunities for everyone to explore new worlds and become their best selves through access to technology, multimedia content, and educational programs.
During the National Library Week, there is also National School Librarian Day, observed this year on April 4th. Each year, National School Librarian Day recognizes the professionals who keep the school library in working order. Our media specialists and clerks are dedicated to helping our children find the resources they need to keep learning. They are the people who create an environment where students can learn every day of the year. Their work is an impressive accomplishment. The media specialists and clerk provide guidance and expose our students to texts, print media, literature, digital resources, and technology. These resources also connect them to libraries around the world.

Oak Hill Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
The Baldwin County School District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Oak Hill Middle School on April 1, 2021, and were joined by members of the Milledgeville Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce, elected officials, school board members, Oak Hill students, BOE and school staff as well as members of the Baldwin County community. The purpose of the ceremony was to showcase the newly renovated middle school. Thanks to E-SPLOST funds, the Baldwin County School District began an $11.5 million renovation project at Oak Hill Middle School during the previous summer. The multi-million dollar renovation to the school has resulted in a new roof, HVAC systems, and brand new interior renovations to such areas as the gymnasium, classrooms, main office, auditorium, and cafeteria.
A special thank you to the citizens of Baldwin County for voting to extend the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST) for another 5 years. In June of 2020, 76% of voters in Baldwin County voted in favor of the Baldwin County School District E-SPLOST. The funds from the 5-year extension of the one-penny sales tax will go towards critical improvements and special projects at all school facilities. This investment has completely transformed our schools and classrooms into 21st-century learning environments. Splash Pad Groundbreaking Ceremony

Members of the Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce, elected officials, school board members, ELC students and staff, school and district leaders as well as members of the Baldwin County community came out to help commemorate this historic event.

The splash pad will be handicap-accessible, and construction is expected to be finished by the end of June 2021.

State School Superintendent Richard Woods Visits Baldwin Student Advisory Council Members
State School Superintendent Woods went on a tour around Georgia, visiting with members of his Student Advisory Council at their home RESAs. This is the first-ever "virtual" Student Advisory Council which was unable to meet in Atlanta. Supt. Woods chose smaller settings in order to adhere to COVID-19 restrictions and still be allowed to see the students face-to-face.
On Wednesday, April 14th, State School Superintendent Woods visited Oconee RESA to meet with Damian Garza, Baldwin High School, and Braylen Howell, Georgia College Early College. Damian and Braylen were asked questions by Superintendent Woods about their experiences of being virtual and face-to-face students this school year, their experience of being on the Student Advisory Council this year, and their thoughts on anything they would change and like to see addressed by the council. They were also given an opportunity to ask Superintendent Woods anything about the council, state education, his life, and experiences. Both students were presented with certificates for their work this year on the Student Advisory Council. Dr. Hayward Cordy and the staff of Oconee RESA did a great job at hosting this event.

Baldwin Braves Championship Ring of Honor Sponsorship Program
Wednesday, March 10, 2021, the Baldwin Braves Basketball Team become the Georgia High School Association's State Class 4A Basketball Champions--a title that has not been held by Baldwin since 1981. William Freeman made a jump shot with 3.8 seconds left on the clock, which secured the boys basketball team's championship win and ended the 40-year drought for the boys basketball program at Baldwin High School.
In order to commemorate this historical event, Baldwin High School would like to purchase championship rings for the student-athletes, coaches, and support staff responsible for this tremendous accomplishment. The seniors on the team have designed a unique ring through Balfour. The cost of each ring is $265.00.
To provide for the cost of the rings, Baldwin High School is seeking support from community members, businesses, churches, alumni, BCSD employees, and others who would like to help raise the necessary funds to purchase the championship rings. We have established a “Ring of Honor” Donation Program with five distinct levels of giving. Click the button below to view each of the donation levels.
