JULY 2022
Welcome to Beachwood!
The Heritage Home Program is excited to have the City of Beachwood joining the program this July. We are excited to assist Beachwood homeowners this year with their home repairs and renovations!
Welcome to a new HHP Assistant, Scott!
My name is Scott Bubnick, and it is a pleasure to be joining the Heritage Home Program. Although I hail from Parma originally, I now call Brunswick my home. I received my Bachelors of history and public history from Baldwin Wallace University, and spent several years working my way thru college at a variety of archival positions. After spending the last few years in the mortgage industry, I am thrilled to be returning to work in the historical field. When I’m not working, I enjoy watching my favorite local soccer team (Cleveland SC) or spinning a record from my extensive collection.

Scott is joining the Heritage Home Program as our new Heritage Home Program Assistant! He will be working with homeowners as they reach out to us with questions on their home repairs and the resources that we have available.
Beat Those Bugs!
Summer brings plenty of opportunities for homeowners to enjoy the warmer weather, however it may also bring some unwanted guests– bugs. Whether it’s a pesky hornet’s nest in your backyard, or a line of ants parading through your kitchen, this article will outline some ways to
help prevent creepy-crawly intruders from becoming mainstays in your home.

One of the most common summertime pests are hornets and wasps, who often will make their homes in trees, garages, or anywhere they can find a void to build their nests. Most wasp and hornet nests are built with a papery substance made from chewed wood. You can prevent wasps from making a nest near your home by painting any eaves. This will make the eave too slick for the wasps or hornets to secure their nest. Additionally, be sure to caulk any windows or cracks in your home to prevent wasps or hornets from making a nest indoors. Finally, make
sure your trash is always covered, wasps and hornets often develop a taste for sugary substances towards the end of their lifespan, including any in your garbage.

Another common household pest in the summertime are kitchen pests such as ants, silverfish, or beetles. One of the best ways to prevent ants and beetles from sneaking into your cabinets is by sealing your dry goods in plastic containers, as well as ensuring your kitchen and dishes
are cleaned every meal. Insects such as silverfish are attracted to damp, dark areas. Be sure to check your attic, under the sink, or in your bathroom for any areas with leaks or puddles, as these are breeding grounds for insects who thrive in moist conditions.
Upcoming Events this Month
