President's Message

Happy Spring, Friends!

The Kansas Abortion Fund is kicking off our biggest grassroots fundraiser of the year—Fund-a-Thon! This nationwide campaign, organized by our friends at the National Network of Abortion Funds, brings communities together across the country to support local abortion funds. It’s a time to build community, grow our collective power, and raise critical funds to help people access abortion care.

And of course—we’re celebrating!

Join us for our Fund-a-Thon party on April 24 right here in Lawrence. We’ll share more details soon, but mark your calendars now.

At KAF, we know how to fund abortion—and we definitely know how to party.

By the numbers

  • In 2025, KAF funded 1,328 abortions for Kansas residents compared to 1,310 abortions in 2024. We paid an average of $335 per abortion.

  • KAF spent $444,683 on abortion care for Kansans but received only $319,438 in donations; therefore, KAF had a financial loss of $144,322 in 2025.

  • KAF funded 25% of all abortions for Kansas residents, thus playing a significant role in providing health care in Kansas.

Let’s talk about the Judicial Selection Amendment

It’s true—Kansas is facing yet another proposed constitutional amendment vote in

August 2026. Even though Kansas voters have already affirmed their support for

abortion rights, anti-abortion politicians continue to push new efforts to restrict access

and override the will of voters.

Read more about what this means below, stay informed, and be ready to VOTE NO.

A new website

Exciting news from KAF! We recently received a grant to redesign our website. Our

URL will remain kansasabortionfund.org, but the new site will be more streamlined,

accessible, and feature an updated look. We expect KAF’s new website to launch within

the next month or two, and we’re excited to share it with you soon.

Thank you for your steadfast support. KAF may be small, but we are mighty—and we

continue to operate as an all-volunteer organization dedicated to ensuring abortion

access for Kansas residents.

As we celebrate Fund-a-Thon, we invite you to help us keep this vital work going. Your support directly helps fund abortion care for Kansans who need it. Please consider

making a gift today.

This August, Vote NO to Keep

Kansas Courts Independent

by Lucy Steyer

This August, Kansans will have the opportunity to vote on a constitutional amendment that would change how our state’s judges are selected.

Currently, Kansas Supreme Court justices are appointed through a nonpartisan merit selection process. A bipartisan commission reviews candidates and sends the most qualified names to the governor. This system helps ensure our judges are chosen for their experience and commitment to upholding the Constitution, not for their political ideologies.

The proposed August amendment would replace this process with general elections. That change would open the door to political pressure and influence from wealthy donors and special interests. Instead of impartial judges focused on the law, we risk creating a system where judges must campaign like politicians.

Our courts should protect Kansans’ constitutional rights, not political agendas. If this amendment passes, Kansans could lose their constitutional rights—from voting to education to reproductive freedom.

That’s why Kansas United for Impartial Courts has launched a campaign to stop this amendment, with KAF as part of the coalition.
