More than Enough

“…where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." (Matthew 18: 20)

Here is Jesus talking to his disciples and letting them know that he will be with them even if only two or three are gathered in his name. In the world we live in, big numbers and massive crowds are usually what is praised. Fill up the stadium, the auditorium, and surely the sanctuary, right? And yet, Jesus explicitly honors the smallest group possible, two or three.

Gathering requires action and the choice to connect with someone else. When we show up for others, we build a space where faith and love can grow. We try to align our hearts, words, and actions with the love, humility, and kindness of Jesus. We become a living example of His love.

Jesus promises to be "in the midst"—right in the middle of our relationships. When we sit with a friend to share our struggles, celebrate our joys, or pray, Christ sits there too. The space between us becomes holy ground.

Who is someone you can intentionally reach out to this week to share an encouraging word or a moment of reflection?

How can you practice creating a "sacred space" in your ordinary schedule this coming week?

Think about a recent conversation that brought you deep comfort or joy. How can you see God's presence in that specific moment?

Christ’s promise is a daily invitation. It tells us that we never have to walk our faith journey alone. We have a blueprint for healing loneliness: look for one or two people, gather with a shared spiritual focus, and trust that God is there. Every kitchen table, coffee shop, and living room can become a sanctuary.

Amen
