2026 Kenya Fire Prevention Internship
Reaches Over 20,000 People in One Week!

AFM is training firefighters in how to effectively respond to fires, and through the 2026 Fire Prevention Internship, our team partnered with firefighter interns to lead community fire prevention activities in Kenya. In just one week, the team reached 20,606 people for fire drills, fire safety assessments, and fire prevention trainings. And this momentum has not slowed down; since the internship has concluded, fire safety advocates in Kenya have reached an additional 28,000 people.

Selena Ruth Smith, a team member that mentored the interns during this trip, wrote about her experiences during the week. Learn more about her experience:

Research from the University of Kentucky
and Africa Fire Mission

The University of Kentucky College of Communication and Information, Department of Communication has released initial research from Doctor Amber Lynn M. Scott and Doctor Ikeola Bodunde. This research was developed alongside Africa Fire Mission (AFM) and focused on team-building, culture, and training in Kenya. These initial findings show AFM at the forefront of a cultural shift in Kenya’s fire and emergency response services, creating an environment of collaboration that leads to information sharing and faster development.
