CX Storytime:

Snowflakes and Small Gestures: Turning Zero Moments into Hero Moments

This past Sunday morning started with a surprise: after a heavy snowfall overnight, I reluctantly geared up to shovel my walkway, only to find it already cleared. My next-door neighbors had snowblown it for me—an unexpected and heartwarming gesture. Moved by their kindness, I made them hot chocolate to show my gratitude, turning an ordinary chore into a shared moment of joy.

Later, another neighbor asked if I could clear their driveway since they were recovering from surgery. Of course! It reminded me how small acts—like returning a toppled trash can, lending a tool, or shoveling for a neighbor—can ripple into meaningful connections.

This same principle applies to the workplace. Treat your coworkers like neighbors. Drop off a coffee, share celebration treats, or check in when they’re out. These small gestures can transform ordinary moments into extraordinary experiences.

In CX, the smallest actions—solving a problem before it's noticed, offering an unexpected delight—turn zero moments into hero moments. When we serve others with care, we create a culture of connection, empathy, and shared success. The impact? Happier customers, stronger teams, and a more human world.

What's one way you can improve your Xperience (EX or CX), and bring out the hero moment? Would love to know...share with me!

The Best Surveys Are Effortless:

Why Companies Need to Rethink Feedback Collection

Ever tapped one of those smiley face buttons in a public restroom for instant feedback? Quick and simple, right? But what if, after hitting the red frown, you could record a brief voice memo or select a specific issue like "no paper towels" or "dirty floors"?

Recently, I completed surveys from an airline, a cruise line, Airbnb, my bank, and Amazon. Some were intuitive; others, frustratingly complex. One even asked for flight details they already had!

Surveys should capture the "Voice of the Customer," but many miss the mark. It's time to rethink feedback collection. Let's discuss how to make surveys smarter, simpler, and truly effective

TIP of the Week

Love Thy Neighbor

This Valentine’s week, remember to ‘love thy neighbor’—whether they’re next door, across the cubicle, or a customer.

A little kindness goes a long way: clear a path for someone (literally or figuratively), share a warm moment, or lend a helping hand.

Building connections through small acts of care creates lasting impressions in life and in CX.

Let’s spread the love this week—one small gesture at a time."

When Life Gives You Snow, Make a Snowman

This past Sunday morning, as I shoveled through the wet, heavy snow, I realized this was about more than just clearing a path or preventing someone from slipping. It was exercise, fresh air, and a dose of vitamin D. It was solidarity—neighbors bundled up and working together, shoveling side by side, waving, and sharing a few cups of homemade hot chocolate. Simple gestures, but they brought warmth to the cold morning.

When the shoveling was done, my walkway, stairs, and driveway looked immaculate. But then, staring at the heap of snow I’d piled up, I thought: why not make a snowman? I hadn’t built one in over 20 years, but today, I let myself embrace the joy of it. Rolling snowballs, stacking them high, and giving Frosty a face—it wasn’t just a nod to childhood; it was a reminder to pause, breathe in the crisp air, and appreciate the beauty of the moment.

The snow blanketed the neighborhood, transforming every house into a postcard. It was a reminder that life, like snow, can be heavy, messy, and unexpected—but there’s always a chance to turn it into something beautiful. Whether you’re making a snowman or simply finding joy in the everyday, don’t forget to step back, smile, and let the big kid in you play. Sometimes, that’s all the inspiration we need. 💛
