Greetings! As spring transitions into summer, we are shifting into one of the busiest and most active times of the year. Thank you for taking a moment to catch up on the people, projects, and initiatives shaping life across our communities through a civic lens. Let’s Do More Good!

Building Affordable Housing

This week I spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony for Olalla Meadows in Toledo — a new 30-unit affordable housing development representing years of planning, partnership, and community collaboration. Projects like this do not happen overnight.

Northwest Coastal Housing Executive Director Sheila Stiley has remained steadfast to synergize
local government, nonprofit organizations, state agencies, and community stakeholders.

Preparing for Emergencies

Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) logo

The former Long-Term Recovery Group (LTRG), originally created following the 2020 Echo Mountain Wildfire, is now transitioning into a broader countywide COAD model focused on helping our county prepare before disasters occur. We appreciate your participation!

Community Organizations Active in Disaster recognize that preparedness starts at home. Residents should consider building emergency supply kits, developing family communication plans, preparing for evacuation scenarios, and staying informed about local hazards.

Welcoming Our New HHS Director

New Health & Human Services (HHS) Director Victor Jackson

Lincoln County's new Health and Human Services (HHS) Director Victor Jackson joins the team! Jackson is an administrative health care professional with international experience.

Health & Human Services = about 31–32% of the entire county budget. That makes HHS one of the largest operational and financial systems within county government. Jackson is a significant hire and we are excited to see his passion in action. Welcome Victor!

Empowering Youth Entrepreneurs

Presenting check to winner of the 3rd Annual “Youth Pitch” competition

It was a pleasure to attend the 3rd Annual “Youth Pitch” Competition. The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners proudly supports both the Oregon Coast Community College Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the Economic Development Alliance of Lincoln County (EDALC).

Through contributions from the Economic Development Grant Fund and other budget line funding the Commission hopes to make a positive impact by supporting both of these organizations as they strengthen our entire business ecosystem.

Supporting Local Families

Many of us gathered for the “Adventures Under the Sea” Gala supporting our Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC). The event was more than a celebration — it was a reminder that protecting children takes a village. CAC has quietly served local families for decades. Your assistance helping children navigate some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable is noteworthy. Thank you for making a difference!

Protecting Our Beaches

Guy Faust sitting with Commissioner Casey Miller

Rotary hosted the McKenzie River Trust and the County's Solid Waste Disposal Service District. My discussions with Guy Faust focused on his push as a dedicated advocate for reducing microplastics on our beaches. If you’re looking for a meaningful way to get involved this summer - voluntourism is another way to make an impact. The Rotary meeting was held at the Pacific Maritime Heritage Center - an impressive facility operated by the Lincoln County Historical Society that has expanded it's facility to include meeting event space.
