Children Youth and Family Ministry Newsletter

September 3rd

With churches around the country we are getting ready to celebrate Rally Day and God's Work Our Hands Sunday on September 13th.

We reflect on how God's love fills our hearts and animates our hands and feet into loving service in the world--helping those in need, caring for others, working for justice, building a brighter future, healing wounds, bridging divides, and reaching out to our neighbors.

Naturally, our prayers and practices this month start with our hearts and hands

Art and Prayer

Below are two resources for hand print art projects. Archaeologists often talk about how hand prints were signatures and left a special connection on the place where they were left. These art projects highlight the special imprint we make on the world.

Hand Prints Through Time

Whether you're folding your hands to pray, placing your hands in a yoga mudra, rolling up your sleeves to do some work, or getting your hands dirty, our hands play an intimate part of the way we show love, serve others, pray, and play.

Some archaeologists and anthropologists think that the hand print is the universal symbol of humanity. Check out the links for really thought provoking images and details about hand print art work and petroglyphs

Hands, Hearts, and Prayers

Below are some prayers for our hands, prayers that use our hands, and prayers that help us use our hands.

Diane Neu's blessing is a powerful reminder of all the work and prayer our hands do. It also invites God's love to shape and mold those same hands.
