Sunshine Week concludes, but the advocacy continues
PNA celebrated Sunshine Week 2025 with two seminars covering Pennsylvania’s open meetings law. The events, both online and in-person, drew 340 people and covered a roundup of major decisions and happenings with Pennsylvania's Right-to-Know Law and the Sunshine Act.
PNA also presented its 2025 Advocate of the Year award to two recipients for the first time, State Rep. Ryan A. Bizzarro, an Erie County Democrat, and Michael Berry, a partner in the Philadelphia office of Ballard Spahr. They were recognized for their pivotal roles in the enactment of the new Pennsylvania anti-SLAPP law, Act 72 of 2024.

Pittsburgh City Paper launches members-only platform for local supporters

Survivor Connection: A new tool linking journalists to Philly gun violence survivors

The Philadelphia Center for Gun Violence Reporting, an organization that focuses on transforming gun violence reporting in the media, launched a service this month to connect journalists with survivors who are willing to share their personal stories. Oronde McClain, director of the program and a gun violence survivor, said the platform will give journalists access to a directory of local gun violence survivors who are comfortable sharing their experiences.
