Manager Electrical Engineering

“I’ve been in this field of work since 1985, when I graduated from Central Michigan University with a B.S. in industrial technology and a minor in computer science.

“There’s no such thing as a typical day, which is part of what I like. There’s no time to get bored with doing the same old thing! I delegate work assignments along with design projects. This includes creation of bill of materials, drawings and programming. I work with customers, from concept to design to building of their machines, and I support them at their facility with training and startup troubleshooting.

“I enjoy challenge and every day here brings challenges my way. Sometimes, it takes research for a couple of days to find solutions to satisfy a customer’s needs. Each job has something to be proud of when completed.

“My wife Cindi and I have two sons and a daughter. They are all married and we have two grandsons, ages three and one. My favorite activities outside of work are hunting, motorcycles and spending time with our children and grandkids. My home and work families do overlap since our son Ryan works here at MODERN with me but in the mechanical engineering department. It’s been a pleasure being able to witness his growth in this industry. He deserves all the credit for what he has accomplished."

Janel Redman

Accounts Payable/HR, Reception, Travel Coordination

Janel joined Team MODERN in 2013 and wears many hats in her role, supporting accounts payable, payroll, HR, customer service, and travel coordination. Whether she’s greeting customers and vendors, assisting clients during machine runoffs, or making sure operations run smoothly, Janel is always at the center of keeping things moving.

“Before coming to MODERN, I worked in the medical field for 14 years. When my family moved to Beaverton in 2003, I knew I wanted to raise my children in a small town and be closer to home. A friend from school — who was also working at MODERN — told me about the office position. I was nervous to make a change, but I was ready to try something new. Looking back, I’m so glad I took the leap. I’ve found the perfect fit and a career that I truly enjoy going to every day.

“My job includes handling all of the A/P invoices, getting payroll ready, scheduling travel, answering calls, and greeting customers and vendors. No two days are ever quite the same, but I love that variety. I especially enjoy helping our clients when they’re here for machine runoffs, and I’m grateful for the flexibility of working close to home so I can attend school events for my kids.

“My three girls are my biggest inspiration. They make me want to do my best in everything, so I can show them what it takes to succeed in today’s world. Outside of work, I love spending time with family and friends, camping, and (most of all) chasing my two youngest girls to their sporting events.

“The motto I live by is simple: ‘Be kind. Always.’ And my favorite quote is: ‘Don’t let anyone dull your sparkle.’ You’ll hear some version of both of those in our house pretty often!”
