The Peggy’s Cove Area Art Society may surprise you.
Since its start 15 years ago, the Peggy’s Cove Area Art Society (PCAAS) has grown from an idea to a vibrant community of artists that fosters growth and development of its members and shares its art with the community.
The PCAAS is best known for its annual July art festival, the Peggy’s Cove Area Festival of the Arts, which offers several events, including an opening night, plein air painting at Peggy’s Cove, a popular studio tour, and a members’ show. The festival has been named a top ten reason to visit Halifax three years in a row.
But PCAAS is more than its summer festival. Here are some things you may not know about the group:
· The membership is inclusive. Artists at any stage of development are warmly welcomed and supported, whether they have formal training and decades of selling their work or are self-taught and just getting started—and everything in between.
· It’s not just for painters. Whatever your medium—paint, pastel, pencil, wood, metal, fibre, leather, glass, found objects, mixed media, or something else—there’s a place for you and your art.
· You don’t have to live in the St. Margaret’s Bay area to join. Artists from other regions are eligible to be members. However, to participate in the annual Studio Tour, you must have a tour location in the area (see the map here).
· Not all members are artists. PCAAS also benefits from the support of members who are volunteers and art lovers.
· PCAAS is active all year long. Members have exhibits, professional development, and social opportunities throughout the year, and offer art-related outreach to the community. See more information about special projects on the website.
