Before getting to the usual items of interest, I’d like to express our deepest condolences to friends and family of great civic leader, champion of LGBTQ rights, and former CB6 member, Alan Fleishmanwho we sadly lost yesterday. Many members of CB6, including our Chair Peter Fleming, were great friends with Alan for decades. I can’t claim to have known him that long, but I know that if everyone who gets civically involved had half the impact Alan did we’d live in a better world.
There are no public arrangements as of now but if that changes I’m happy to pass along such information.
Moving on to the items of potential interest that include a shelter meeting reminder, Walt Whitman, Build The Block meeting and more…..
One week from tonight, beginning at 6:30 pm, we will be co-sponsoring a meeting at M.S 51 on the homeless shelter slated for 399 3rd Avenue. As I’ve mentioned previously, we, do not have a role in any site selection/ review process when it comes to homeless shelters, unlike in the ULURP process. The meeting’s purpose is to have the Department of Homeless Services, and the site's operator, PRAXIS, to explain how this shelter will operate but to also answer the public's questions
