The Paved Trails are now
Open for Business!!
| |
We are excited to announce that our paved trail network is now open and already seeing regular activity. From roller skiing and training to walking, wheelchairs, roller blades, strider bikes, and strollers, these trails are an incredible resource for everyone in our community.
These amazing trails are new for all of us, and there may be some learning curves as we adjust. However, with patience, respect, and a shared commitment to safety, we believe everyone can enjoy this space together. Let us continue to build a positive and welcoming trail experience for all users.
| Who can use these trails? | |
Our paved trails were designed primarily to support roller ski training for our athletes. In the past, training took place on city streets, where traffic posed a serious safety concern. These new trails now offer a safe, dedicated space for roller ski training and development.
While the primary purpose of the trails is athlete training, they are open to all users. Walkers, runners, wheelchairs, roller blades, strider bikes, and strollers are all welcome. Please note that team training sessions take place on:
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00–8:00 PM
Saturdays from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM.
During these times, roller skiers will be active on the trails. To ensure safety, please avoid having dogs on the trails during these training periods.
As these trails are shared by users of varying speeds and mobility, do not use headphones. It is important that all users are able to hear and communicate with one another. Keep to the right side of the trail unless passing, and if you hear someone call out to pass, please move to the right.
Let us all do our part to keep this trail network safe, respectful, and enjoyable for everyone.
| | Will these Trails Be Closed to Users? | | |
Our paved trail network will remain open to users throughout the season. However, there will be specific times when the trails will be closed to the public to accommodate training sessions, camps or competitions. These closures may also affect crossings with the singletrack trails (Freeway, Karma, Rock Drop and Twister).
To stay informed, we hope to add this trail network to our Nordic Pulse trail conditions website, where updates on closures and conditions will be posted. Please check Nordic Pulse, our website, and social media channels regularly for the latest information.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to make this new trail network a safe and successful space for everyone.

How will this impact the
Singletrack Trails?
| | |
As our paved trail network becomes more active, there will be an impact on singletrack trails that cross these new routes. When riding Freeway, Rock Drop, Karma, and Twister, proceed with caution and yield at all paved trail crossings.
Roller skiers do not have brakes—bikes do. To reduce the risk of collision, we will be re-routing some sections of Karma and Twister to create safer intersections. Please watch for these changes.
All athletes are being trained to call out when approaching crossings and high speed areas, and we ask that bikers do the same. Clear communication helps keep everyone safe. Additional signage and directional markings will be installed so users know where to look and yield.
During events, training sessions, camps, and competitions, trail closures may be in place. If you see trail closure tape, do not cross it.
For updates, please check our website, Nordic Pulse, and social media regularly. Thank you for helping us build a safe and respectful trail environment for all.

As we continue to grow as a year-round facility, we are actively researching how other clubs and venues manage the long-term maintenance and upkeep of paved trail networks. Our paved trails will require regular attention, including brushing, surface repairs, and the use of specialized machinery to ensure safety and longevity.
This need for maintenance is not limited to paved trails. With the expansion of our summer operations, many of our facilities—including singletrack trails and our disc golf course—also require ongoing care and resources.
We are committed to maintaining all our amenities to a high standard and are exploring sustainable models to support this work well into the future. As part of this, we will be looking into donation models to allow for easy contributions from our users. We know that many members of our community would be more than happy to support the upkeep of this amazing facility, and we are grateful for your continued enthusiasm and generosity.
More to come around this, we thank you for your patience and support

Should I go in a certain Direction?
Yes, direction matters on our paved trail network to ensure safety and a smooth flow for all users.
The lower loop travels clockwise. When you arrive at the parking lot, head left toward the Biathlon Stadium. From there, you will reach Snoopy’s Junction, where you can choose to go up Nightrider (a more challenging route) or take the Para Nordic Cutoff. Both options continue in a clockwise direction. As these trails reconnect, be sure to look left, as fast-moving athletes may be coming downhill.
At the bottom of the long hill, you can either veer right to return to the main stadium or head left onto Canada Cup and Cranbrook Climb (a more advanced section). If you choose to head left, this section runs counterclockwise and will continue in that direction until it reconnects with Nightrider.
Please follow the designated direction of travel to keep the trails safe and enjoyable for everyone. The Map below provides directional arrows.
If you see folks heading in the wrong direction, let them know. This is for everyone's safety.

Will these trails only be used for
Roller Ski Competitions?
| |
Our new paved trail network opens the door to an exciting range of possibilities far beyond traditional trail use. While we look forward to hosting roller ski competitions, we also see tremendous potential for criterium cycling races, pickleball tournaments, music festivals, and so much more.
Our team has been hard at work imagining creative ways to make the most of this incredible space. From athletic events to community gatherings, the opportunities are truly endless.
Stay tuned as we continue to explore and announce new and innovative uses for the paved trails. This is just the beginning!

What if I have more question?
We understand that there will be many questions as we all adjust to this exciting new addition to our facility. The paved trail network is an incredible resource, but like any new feature, it will take time for everyone to learn how to use it safely and respectfully. What happens this season, may not be what happens next season. It is a learning process.
For now, please remember that these are multi-use trails. Whether you are walking, biking, roller skiing, or using a stroller or wheelchair, we all share the space. Respect for one another is key as we learn to navigate the trails together as a community.
And please keep in mind—we are a Nordic facility, and many of our athletes train on roller skis, which do not have brakes. It is best to be aware, give them space, and stay alert. Athletes are being trained to respect other users, so let us all commit to doing the same for them.
More information will continue to be shared as we grow into this exciting new phase together. If you do have further questions, please feel free to reach out at anytime: gm@caledonianordic.com.
